Same socket, although I wonder if some of the older X99 motherboards would need more than a BIOS update to run them with stability.
I remember my old Z87 board used to throw a fit when I put a 4690k on it after updating to the latest BIOS at the time.

I'd rather have my PCIe SSDs connecting to the chipset rather than take away lanes from my GPUs.
