When will it hit the Arch stable repos? Don't want to enable the unstable ones for gnome
>>
I really want Debian backports for GNOME...
>>
>>53645614
Don't you mean downgrade to gnome?
>>
>>53645614
I'm considering it
>>
>>53645614
MATE MASTER RACE
>>
>>53646148
You can't downgrade to GNOME 3.20 because it's the best version of the best DE for Linux
>>
>>53646277
This.
>>
>>53646277
Call me when you don't have to download exrensions manager for something as trivial as close , minimise, maximise, and movable panel functionality in your designated DE. No wonder people are deprecating GNOME and GTK. You have pajeets at Red hat to thank
>>
>>53645614
>iGnome

Do people use this non-functional non-configurable tabletish retarded DE in their desktops? It amazes me how people can use this garbage more than 5 minutes.

Move the mouse to the corner and 2 clicks to change the active window, huh? God...
>>
>>53647625
Literally right-click on the window (or use GNOME's fantastic extension system if you so desperately need the buttons in the title bar).
>>
GNOME is completely unusable, when's LXQt?
>>
Ah, christ, they called this release "Delhi"....
>>
>>53649681
>Oh well, abandon all hope.
>>
I think this is too stupid to make a whole thread out of it but I just realised you can use Gnome's built in Video app to browse for youtube videos. Holy fucking shit.

Does it run well?

Fedora 23 here, kinda jerky with the animations on a 280x
>>
I actually uninstalled gnome and installed kde myself
you know what they say

>>
>>53649509
Yeah now try repositioning the title bar. Might as well use windows
>>
Can I run full Gnome without shitty compositing ruining every goddamn thing I try to run yet?
>>
How would someone gran this on fedorer
>>
>>53646198
/thread
>>
>>53652624
nope, mutter (their compositor) is hard-wired in Gnome Shell for Gnome 3.
>>
>>53652600
By why, I don't need an option to change every fucking pixel like in kde
>>
>tfw getting used to gnome on wayland on debian sid
Feels good but is hard to get used to first. Too bad drag and drop between nautilus and firefox doesn't work properly on wayland yet.
>>
>>53651776
Nice. Can you open them with mpv directly?
>>
>>53652652
>>>/loo/
You wait until Fedora 24 or rawhide it.
>>

>>
>>53645655
This.
Going to wait until it hits stable.
>>
Looks like some really Apple tier shit.
>>
>>53656805

Same.
>>
>>53656832
It doesn't have a stupid dock
>>
>>53656850

So what's that thing that pops out on the left side of the screen when you move your mouse there?
>>
I've been using gnome 3 for a long time. to all gnome haters: what do you recommend I try?
>>
>>53656889

i3
>>
>>53656879
Nothing. What pops up when you use your super key or hit the hotcorner is the overview and the thing you think is a dock is actually just a list of the launchers you marked as a favorite.
>>
>>53656901
how does i3 fair with debian?
>>
>>53654912
Then it's useless.

Even Plasma lets you turn off compositing, and lets you do so on-the-fly as well. Compositing is fucking cancer and why Wayland will suck.
>>
>>53645614
I'm waiting for it to hit stable repos.

>>53645655
Based on previous releases it might take up to a month. Most likely we'll get 3.20.1 rather than 3.20.0.

>>53648351
>Do people use this (...) DE in their desktops?
Yes. And if somebody doesn't like it they can switch to a different DE that suits their need better. Like KDE, Mate, Enlightenment or anything else. And then insult any DE he doesn't like and also its users. Isn't Linux great?
>>
>>53656938
Good, like all DEs and WMs except unity. I'm not the guy who recommended it though. Tested i3 two times and didn't get into it.
The best DEs are xfce and gnome imo.
>>
>>53656938

I don't know, I don't use Debian but you should be able to install it and then just log out of your current session, change to i3 in your DM and try it out.
>>
>>53656901
i3 is good.
>>
>>53657025

It is good but I wish I knew how to rice it properly.

>>
>>53646107
that's a lot of work
>>
>>53657034
can you read? type?
>>
>>53656972
unity isn't a DE really, it's more a theme for gnome
>>
>>53657179
If it was just that then there would be no problem getting it to work on other distros. There is no working way to install unity on any distro other than buntu.
>>
>Constantly complains about "muh bloat" when a program includes millions of configuration items OoTB to set up every single pixel colour.
>Also complains when a DE offers a minimal, barebones experience you can customise with only the extensions you actually need

You faggots are never happy with anything (especially if it's new, OMG muh efficient workflow from 1998) and the reason why open source software is in such sorry state.
>>
>>53645655
Does Arch make a good desktop distro for use with Gnome? Ubuntu has gotten really annoying since they went from being basically just debian + current Gnome to holding Gnome back because their NIH crap can't keep up with the development pace.
>>
>>53658722
It runs Gnome just as well as every other distro.

>>
I'm I using that bad copy of OSX's Aqua?
Not anymore.
>>
>>53656901
Gnome can be easily set up to work just like i3. I use both, but as Gnome SLOWLY matures, I see fewer reasons to use i3 unless you need to run Linux on a potato. My biggest gripe with Gnome at the moment is the monstrosity of a title/menu bar you get when using Firefox.
Long story short, if you use Gnome like a retard, you'll surely get retarded results.

You're using i3 for the wrong reasons. It's the most efficient way to use your pc desu.

It's actually much better

Thank god it's been long since the OSS developers that matter stopped listening to your autismo tantrums and decided to move things forward despite of you.

would KrashDE be much of an improvement?

Well no, it looks quite clean but it's extremely simple which is all I need it to do.
