I actually do use my PC primarily for games and the total cost of my system was about $1200. $600 of which was for the GTX 980 Ti.

It's crushing everything from planet side 2 to The Witcher 3, half life 1, killing floor 2, L4D2, Rust, but I mostly just play league of legends because I'm a fucking waste of skin.

$1500 is way more than you need for a perfectly good PC build.

This some scrub talk desu.

$300 will build a very good PC for everything but high-end gaming. If you want that you go up to $500.

$1000 and you will be playing in 4k at highest settings on everything out there.

There's no reason to ever spend $1500 on a PC beyond being a show-off.

If you don't plan on moving around, a desktop is still a good option:
Nice big screen
Good keyboard
Good mouse
And the case is still cheap.
It does come with a higher entry price as you have to buy multiple things where you can get a cheap used thinkpad cheaper than you can get the peripherals.
But if you have like $500, you can get something good which can be upgraded later when you have the money

Nobody said anything about 60 fps. I said you'd be playing. 30 fps is considered acceptable right now in that resolution with maximum settings.

You can get a 980 ti for $600 and use the remaining $400 for the rest of your build.
>>
>>53644826
Why would you even want to?

What out there is worth seeing in such a way? There hasn't been a PC game worth upgrading for in years. Fucking hell, I'm even thinking of downgrading just to safe myself from as much noise and power costs.

90% of users just need a laptop/tablet/phone for web browsing and light applications and a single games console for fun.
If you really want to PC game or need power to render video or some shit you'll make the "investment".
I put investment in quotes because tech degenerates in value rapidly as it's superceded

When it comes to 4k ultra gaming, yes. Most of the people running at those settings are not achieving or expecting 60 fps. Sometimes you can't even get it when you're in SLI.

I spent less than 400USD for a rig that runs everything at 1080p.

Bought a used desktop off ebay for 550USD shipped with two 280xs, SSD, RAM, HDD, FX-4100 or some 4XXX CPU, I don't remember now. Sold the extra 280x and the 4100 (which I replaced with a used 6350). Most parts were are still under warranty, which is why I RMA'd one of the 280x, the SSD, and the mobo.

>>53647024
Anything over 30 fps is playing a game on a legitimate level. But I can usually do better than that.

Using presets if for fags anyway. I turn off AA in every game I play because I prefer maximum visual detail and don't mind if it makes the edge of a gun have a little jaggy here and there. I always turn off that one performance-suck setting like hairworks. Doing these two things will net about 20 fps.

It's a good resolution period.

The leap in quality from 480/720 to 1080 is a clear progression. The difference between 1080 and 4k is subtle until you reach a screen size over 40".

Note: there are benefits to be seen on a 1080 screen when using internal rendering resolutions higher than 1080. The same can be said for blu-ray video. A 4k video downsampled to 1080p will still look better than most 1080p videos.

The intangible solidity of a high bitrate image free of artifacts trumps resolution most of the time. Double so if the monitor being used is of excellent performance.
>>
>>53641921
