So I hate to break it to you, but the Purism Librem doesn't have better privacy than the google chromebook pixel, is less secure than a cheap arm laptop (because of intel ME), and is less powerful than a cheap x86 laptop (because you pay extra for freedom/funding a nerd tech startup).

Seriously, all the firmware on the google pixel is just as "floss" as that on the librem, except for the sound drivers and touchpad.

And the pixel costs less.
And its faster.
And it's made with higher quality.

If you buy a librem you're paying 3x what its worth because of better advertising. The only advantage the librem has over the pixel is its floss touchpad and sound drivers.

The librems a joke

Chris on LAS reviewed the Librem that finally arrived. Apparently it wasn't even what he ordered, and there was a bug in the firmware meaning the fans were always running 100%.

I just watched one of the product videos. It looks like it's not targeting neckbeards or actual people who want privacy. The fucking video mentions "popular mac/windows compatible software pre-installed" on pureOS.

I mean it seems like they're marketing to the wrong crowd.

They got funded didnt they?

>Intel

What did people think? You're better off buying something else from linuxpreloaded.com. I will say the Librem doesn't look bad aesthetically though.

Pixel looks better

>implying freetards have the money to buy either the pixel or the librem garbage

Who the fuck cares holy shit.
'hurr there are binary blobs that are proprietary and I can't stand using them"

anyone who uses a computer for anything even remotely productive isn't a freetard.

Purism Librem is one big joke on the world of libre computers. It is just one of these unbranded chinese notebooks. Yes it works with free software, but any notebook with a artheros wifi card and a intel GPU will work as good as a Purism one (all free software except for the bios). It is a shame that this product received a lot of attention while there are good free/libre computer projects such as the Novena front Andrew "bunnie" Huang, the Libreboot project (working to free computers with non-free BIOS) and the EOMA68 (with looks like is being sponsored by ThinkPenguin).

There are some posts on the blog of coreboot talking about the Purism Librem:

I'm emailing stallman and posting results.

Sent the email now we play the waiting game.

Stallman doesn't read email. Electrons don't come with an ip license and therefore can be modified and commercialized without disclosing the source code.

You need to send him a letter using ink that you make at home from the semen of an albino naked mole rat if you want him to respond

Is the EOMA like a regular computer?

I can't tell what do you mean by "regular computer", but the idea of the EOMA is a small card sized computer, with you can put inside a notebook case. If you want to make a upgrade on the notebook, you can just change this card. You can look more on the EOMA68 site:

I remember seeing pictures of the insides of one of these Chinese notebooks, I will see if i can find them again. Here is a picture I took from the LinuxActionShow, but you can find a ton of these notebooks on aliexpress.

Do you think it belongs in here :

or here :

I can't see why it would not belong there.

I could not find more pictures of the insides of the chinese models to compare, but i was able to find the questionable methods of debugging from librem purism: https://archive.is/qb0v5
