Which is worse: converting a PNG to a JPG or converting a JPG to a PNG?

png to jpeg
at least jpeg to png doesn't result in information loss
>>53632432
>JPG to a PNG
I die inside every time I see that some nigger has decided to save a jpeg artifacted screenshot as a giant fucking png. There is no need for this, you aren't preserving any quality, all you're doing is making longer load times.

This.
png to jpeg is at least justifiable, there is no reason to save a jpeg as png.
>>53632432
>>53633631
This doesn't really answer the question
>>53633697
It does. If it doesn't help you, please don't touch pictures at all.
>>53632432
The latter.
The former has a valid use.

>the only images you would possibly want to put in a digital format are anime images

no shit...
JPEG is a lossy format. You convert to JPEG to save space at the cost of image quality.
PNG is a lossless format. You don't ever convert to PNG, but use it as the lossless template from which you can convert to lower quality lossy images.

Yes.
Does a max quality jpeg have the same quality as a png? Or does the jpeg still have lossy compression at max quality?
