I have a genuine question - sure if you like XFCE go with it, but other than it not being so beautiful in my opinion to pick it over the alternatives - it's the worst optimized desktop environment.
I only took three pictures from one recent test, but the internet is full with 2016 + benchmark tests on desktop environments and XFCE pretty much fails for worse - very badly optimized.

A very good place to help you pick your distro
XFCE tends to be extremely slow in it's development as it has been known to span years between major releases. While this means there are not many disturbing changes to the DE, it also means that new features that are requested take some time to appear.
In my humble opinion for I recommend MINT and LXDE and if you want to go full modern wait for gnome 3.20 tomorrow it will be released - it has some very good optimizations which makes it very good with resources right now .

XFCE 4 is a home run. Mate runs slow on the same system.
