What's your excuse for not running Fedora with Gnome3 on a Macbook Air?
I'm not a kernel developer
I don't feel the need to mimic others.
Also I don't like Fedora.

My excuse is that I'm running Fedora with KDE on a libreboot'd "White Macbook" (Black variant... the irony) with a new 500 HDD, a 128 GB SSD ("combo" drive removed) and 8 GB DDR2 RAM ("3 GB is the limit" my ass, Apple - it was just your fault, yours and of your notoriously buggy EFI firmware on ~2007 macbooks)
Better than any crappy muh chinkpads out there

I have nor will I ever, use a distro recommended to me by anyone.
If I use linux/gnu (debian) I do it because I educated myself and compared it to any other project competing.
It is the reason why windows 8.1 was the last system for me. I will not even go back to windows 7 due to age.
