Not him, but MPC-HC with madVR has better performance than mpv. I can use madVR with 128 neurons no problem, but mpv struggles even with 8 neurons or whatever the lowest is.

Also madVR has better anti-ringing and not as much noise as mpv.

To be fair, that's just the NNEDI3 filter. mpv's non-meme upscalers are fine. Some are even faster than madVR's equivalents. mpv's NNEDI3, on the other hand, is pretty bad. I doubt it works with a reasonable number of neurons on any modern hardware.

Completely wrong. NNEDI3 (you should use git, it's faster now) and other shaders are slower because GPU manufacturers refuse to properly supporter opengl.

Maybe on Windows. On Linux, OpenGL is supported pretty well by all GPU vendors that aren't called AMD or Intel. And it *certainly* isn't the reason why mpv's NNEDI3 is an order of magnitude slower than SEt's OpenCL version.

The issue you mentioned isn't even related to performance.

HEVC at those bitrates is very CPU-intensive, and I can only barely keep up with my modified version of FFmpeg (incorporating performance improvements from OpenHEVC)

You could start by optimizing it in OpenGL.

In that case I'd hesitantly blame AMD drivers, unless you've confirmed that the signal and timing is frame-perfect.

OpenGL implementations on Windows are notoriously poor, and mpv's interpolation has suffered from this on windows pretty much since it existed.

On Windows I would honestly just turn it off completely, unless the situation has changed.

Only difference seems to be 10-bit vs 8-bit. I'm not sure why the 10-bit one fails to play on your end. Since your CPU usage is so low, *maybe* GPU bandwidth has something to do with it? Try adding :pbo to your opengl options.

Where did you get that file from? I could test it on my machine. You could also try with
opengl:dumb-mode=yes
as mentioned. (Again with or without pbo) This should rule out the actual rendering as part of the bottleneck.

I'm not sure what you're asking (or what you're trying to accomplish), but try loop-file instead of loop because it has different semantics. Maybe that is what you want?

Yeah same, but now that it's in .mkv you can at least seek properly.

Also I like how the beginning _always_ stutters because they actually fucking encoded their shitty 2:2:4 pulldown into their 60 Hz streams.

Pretty sure mpv will soon need an anti-pulldown filter just to deal with the wave of 60 Hz garbage that TV broadcasters are going to be puking out.

Anyway, I tried re-encoding it as lower bitrate H.264 just to see if the GPU can physically handle the 4K 60 Hz 10-bit upload requirements, and it works fine on my GTX 970.

So the bottleneck here is clearly CPU decoding. And since the usage is not 100%, there's clearly a lot of potential. It's most likely stalled on memory transfers.

(I'm not sure if the OpenHEVC intrinsics will even work for 10-bit HEVC as opposed to 8 bit, if they don't then that might explain the reason outright)

Maybe. I got it to play smoothly with a pause every 30 sec with MPDN. That ram usage though.

if i attach my cpu to a 24 hz tv, do i need to turn this smooth motion off? or can it detect automatically and turn itself off?

Try adding :backend=dxinterop to that vo=... line too.

The latter. It should automatically switch itself off.

>>53618122
MPV does it all "out of the box" with the exception of a GUI. I suppose when it does finally get a friendly, feature-full GUI nobody will ever bother with "codec packs" and other nonsense that MPC-HC requires because it's based on 1990s technology.

So, I always thought mpv was like the successor to mplayer, but I recently found out that mplayer is still being updated, and I read somewhere that it's the most used Linux media player. I searched for "mpv and mplayer" but found basically zero results of anyone talking about both at the same time. Also, mpv is not listed on their "Related projects" page. What does that all mean?

Much less resource usage, doesn't copy back all frames to memory.

On my intel graphics with 60fps source material:
Runs flawless: vo=opengl-hq:backend=dxinterop + hwdec=dxva2
Drops frames at 1000 per min: vo=opengl-hq + hwdec=dxva2-copy
Works and drops no frames unless open up a browser beside and do some static text web page browsing: vo=opengl:deband + hwdec=dxva2-copy

>>

You want to download all 3 qualities or you want the first video 360p, second 720p, ...?

The former you can just give all 3 as an argument:

-f '[height=360],[height=720],[height=1080]'

I don't think you can do the latter in a single format.
