I`m taking advantage of this effect for the electronics project I`m working on. In the video it looks like a bar moving vertically, but it`s actually a single point moving from left to right then dropping down a pixel and starting from the left again. By detecting this point with a light sensor it`s possible to get X,Y position by comparing when it was detected to the video signal synchronization pulses.
