There are loads of reasons to like cave story, from its fun art style to the excellent music score, tight controls and engaging gameplay, the fun never stops. The game manages to balance difficulty with enjoyment, so while I am slightly pissed that balrog roasted my ass for the second time in a row, I am more motivated to beat him this time. Mine just came in the mail. Though SNES emulation is total crap, there's enough games to satisfy me.
Meh psp was so underwhelming. Sony jewed everyone in the storage so a 1gb pro duo was 110 euro. Modding was good, emulators worked amazingly well. But it only had a few good games wipe out pure, tekken and Lumines ( which is pure unfiltered digital dopamine btw).

Literally all of the US region code 1 PSPs (even the Go) are hackable at this point. You dont really have to worry about compatibility. I would suggest getting a MicroSD adapter and a 32GB microSD card though, the produo ones are low capacity and expensive.

It is really not that big of a problem, because 99% of the time I sleep it anyways, the only time it actually turns off is when I kill the battery. Loading the software only takes about 10 seconds, so that is not a big deal either.

I read some articles way way back about jap PSPs not working correctly with it. That may have been changed, or may never have been an issue, but I threw it in there to be safe. Region code 1 machines are easy and cheap to come by so I personally don't feel like it would be worth it to risk it and get a non- region code 1 model.
The Nintendo DS can emulate anything worth emulating on the psp and the web browser was shit. But at least it doesn't have gimicky touch screen.

UMD was a shit idea, disks in a portable gaming device = awful concept. If only flash memory technology was better back then, then we might have had something like a nintendo DS cartridge but the size of a credit card.

The biggest problem with the vita is that Sony had no idea how to market it in the west. It's doing great in Japan as a standalone handheld but over here it's constantly marketed as a peripheral to the PS4 and now it's pretty much too late since the 3DS has pretty much achieved market dominance.

Honestly the 3DS is the best thing yet for playing old games. It can natively play DS games if you have a DS flashcart laying around. Once hacked, it can install GBA games and play them natively and it can run emulators for various earlier systems. If that's not your thing, they've even figured out how to convert roms into virtual console titles. Just today I learned that a reputable member of the scene is working on an RPG Maker player to let people play RPG Maker 2000/2003 games on the 3DS too.
