Getting ready to ditch Windows and take the plunge. Going to install Trisquel 7 as soon as it's done downloading. I checked out the hardware requirements so I'm good there. Anything I need to know, etc... going in?

Also, inb4 install gentoo, etc...

Say bye to your software
If you want Linux with at least SOME of your old software you're gonna want to install Ubuntu, Manjaro, Gentoo or Debian.

Essentially this, trisquel is a good operating system. But I wouldn't recommend it for a windows user learning GNU/Linux. Because a lot of your software will be missing, even shit like virtualbox and steam because virtualbox uses a non-free compiler and steam is... yeah. Though hey if you're really into free software go for it.

Ouch. Jesus I can't believe I didn't think of muh steam. What does the non-steam linux gaming world look like? Not a big gamer but do enjoy some old-school RPG's like Baldur's Gate, etc... and more recently the Shadowrun series.

You can get Steam, but as far as I know it's only on Debian-based systems like Ubuntu.

I run stream on Gentoo. Native Linux and windows version with wine.

Also trisquel is a real bad choice for someone just making the switch. Just go with mint or manjaro or something. You will be missing a lot of software....

No, they have it for RPM distros too. It's just officially they recommend you use Debian or Ubuntu derivatives but OpenSUSE and Fedora are supported.
