Noobuntu here I just compiled mpv from github correctly and it runs. But it wont open any window. I can see it running in system monitor but there is no video or windows popup.

Why the fuck are you compiling mpv from source on ubuntu? Either install from package manager, and if it's not there then look for ppa with precompiled mpv, there is more than one.

because it tears terrible in full screen. Ubuntu doesn't have the latest version of mpv so it is not patched there

I use ubuntu 15.10 with mpv from ubuntu's depot
I don't get screen tearing
