Not him but I had pic related piece of shit. The coating wore off within about 6 months in a lot of spots, looked fucking horrible. I also realized that the black and gold was horribly tacky looking and graduated to stainless steel master race.

Calling Bullshit on your story, faggot!

There are 276 reviews on amazon, with 83% giving it 5 stars.

So if the coat would have been that bad, people would have rated it way lower.

>>53613540
A lot of not good stuff can get pretty high ratings. A lot of non-watch people buy one on a whim and then after a month or two it sits in a drawer until the battery dies and they throw it away during their next move. Or spring cleaning or something.

I wouldn't put much faith in any cheap black coating, really.

Believe what you want, I thought it was cool at the time because I wasn't really knowledgeable about watches. After I wore it for a while it just got old really fast, I replaced it with a mako and gave it to my brother. The clasp is where the coating was coming off, it was very obvious because of the high polish finish.

I never wore a watch in my life. But something happened to my health and I needed to keep track of time at my job. So I started wearing one. I work in a dangerous environment so I needed something that would take abuse.

I bought a gshock by casio. I paid $60 at the time. Mine is black, with red accents and a green light glow. It's a very durable nice looking watch. However I bought the digital display version. Which is much easier for me to quickly check. It is not a fashionable watch and it's not very comfortable, but it does exactly what I need it to. I kind of wish I opted for the Analog version, but it was another $60 at the time.

I think I can live without it, but I like the idea of a watch and I might wear something much more fashionable with good color accents. Definitely has to be analog. I am considering a smart watch too. I saw that casio is also making a g shock smart watch. But I like the fitbit smartwatches.

Guy who posted originally about the dials. I agree with you on the whole chinese thing but if there's one chink company I'm willing to risk buying a watch from its probly Celadon. So far they seem to have lots of potential and every buyer/review typically has good to decent feedback about the watch (in this case the Imperial series). Am actually tempted to pull the trigger on one.

Nope

People wrongly think the silicone grease is what maintains water resistance and that soap will remove it thus compromising it. Silicone grease is only used to lubricate it so you can tighten it more. I've been asked to work on plenty of waterproof steel watches with crusty dirt and shit inside the bracelet and on the caseback because people are so afraid of cleaning them.

>>
>>53613294
I'm not a watch guy, I just popped in because I saw the OP image and wanted to ask... What are those pink things? I see them on a lot of watches. I assume the blue screws are just decoration.
>>
>>53620044
Stones or jewels were developed in watches to reduce friction at the points of heaviest wear. When metal rubs against metal and when oil breaks down, the damage to pivots and bearings can be rapid and devastating in terms of watch repairs. So in a nutshell, in order to reduction wear and friction between two pieces of metal that rub against one another, watch makers use (today synthetic rubies) hard stones as friction points as they last a lot longer than metal.
>>
>>53620044
The screws have been heat treated to a very specific temperature which makes the steel a pretty blue color and makes it resistant to rust (most watch parts are stainless steel which is very rust resistant, but screws are carbon steel which rusts easily).

The pink things are synthetically produced rubies. They are used as bearings on high friction surfaces because they are very hard and resistant to wearing down and also have low friction against steel with only very minimal lubrication required. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewel_bearing
>>
>>53620112
>>53620142
Ah, thanks. I knew that they used stones, but I wasn't sure if those were it or not. Are sapphires common as well? If not, is that just a tradition thing?

Does this work or no?
>>
>>53620171
Sapphire is used for the crystal over the dial mostly.
>>
>>53620171
Sapphires and rubies are the same compound (corundum), it's just that for historical reasons a red corundum gem is called a ruby and a blue or other color is called a sapphire. For whatever reason they always use red and I haven't seen anything different.

However it is common to use transparent uncolored synthetically grown sapphires as the watch crystal. It's much harder than regular window glass so it's harder to scratch.

Do you like white/off-white or black? Personally I think the white SARB looks better on its own and is better suited to work as a dressy watch (in b4 9gag reminds us all that it's actually a sport watch), but the black SARB could look better if you want to wear it really casually. It's really just personal preference.

Seiko 5s are surprisingly nice quality for $55 or so, but only some of the Seiko 5 styles are that cheap and you may not like it. Timex makes very reliable but loud quartz watches ($25-$40 for time-only models, $55ish for chronographs) which I think are kind of cheap looking but are not too bad. Casio digital watches ($10 up to like $25ish) are ass ugly in my opinion but you really can't argue with how dirt cheap and very practical and reliable they are.
