What went wrong /g/?

I thought AMD was gonna brutally slaughter the competition when they announced "gaming" APUs.

I think you were wrong. That's what happened.
>>
The only "gaming" APUs that AMD has released are in the PS4 and Xbone.

And they fucking release a 8 core cpu, 1000+ shader gpu APU for the PS4 just to say "fuck you". I think AMD played us. They probably could release a good APU.
>>
>>47541883
You're wrong about the definition of a core.
A module is two independent integer cores, with a partially SMT FPU.
No APU has lower CPU performance than a Turion
AMD has had a huge lead in IGP performance since Llano. Only Iris Pro has come close to being competitive, and it still has tons of issues that will likely never be resolved.
APUs most definitely do not hit 100c, aside from a few embedded parts that have never shown up on the consumer market. Speccy does not accurately report tctl, only AMD Overdrive gives accurate readings.

Shitpost harder, niggerfaggot.
>>
>>47541904
The laptop ones really heat up over that.

I had a Pavilion g6 laptop, A6-4400m. Terrible piece of shit it was. It was slower than my Acer 5520g from 2006 which had a Turion X2. Cleaned out the fans, put some Gelid on and it still hit over 100 degrees celsius under load. It is because of the combined CPU and GPU in one package. That is how they heat up that much.

That and it's a single core marketed as a dual core.
>>
>>47541934
You're entirely wrong also. Stop shilling for your shitty APU. It was a good concept but like all things AMD, it was not executed properly.

>>
>>47541960
The Q6600 is a quad core unlike APU's. AMD is literally fake cores these days. Intel doesn't do this shit and that is why they are miles ahead.

The only APU that was a true quad core was the 3410mx and that was a piece of shit. 1.6ghz.

>>47541966
>No, you're just a little retarded shitposting baby
That's you alright. Thinking that threads are cores, top kek.

APU's are shit and they will always be shit.
>>
>>47541913
The APU in the PS4 and XBONE were specially made and designed. Pretty sure there is some legal agreement stopping them releasing those APUs to the market.

>>47541883
Ok, I'll bite.

>marketed as a "quad/dual core"
Yes. It is. And the 970 is marketted as a 4GB card with 2MB l2 cache.
>dual is technically a single core and is slower than a mobile pentium 4
>quad is technically a dual core and is slower than a turion 64 x2

>Going from Cores to modules

>graphics are only a hair faster than the competing intel HD

3 times faster is a hair?
The only thing Intel have produced that can come close to even lower end A8 APUs is Iris pro. Which costs more than an entire A8 based system.
>heats up over 100 degrees centigrade
With the stock heatsink. Which is shit. As is Intel's. But otherwise it is only mobile APUs that hit those temperatures, as do all mobile chips.

>vga/hdmi port is scorching hot
>air blowing out of the system is scorching hot

>Air is 80*C
Are you really this desperate?.

>>47541827
AMD did slaughter the competition. Compare even A4 APUs to Intel graphics and they're ahead. A8 and A10s can happily run Battlefield 4 on medium settings at 1080p. Granted only 30fps, but crack down the settings or resolution, and that fps climbs pretty quick.
>>
>>47541935
Something else was wrong anon, maybe your laptop had a shit cooling system. I had a m6 pavilion with the A10-4600m. CPU @2.0 - 2.7GHz under load reached 180F/76.6C. Of course I used a cooling pad so my result is biased but I think AMD will never be preffered over Intel low heat mobile CPUs.
>>
>>47542024
So are there any AMD CPUs that are still better than the intel ones? Except in the low end segment?
>Intel doesn't do this shit and that is why they are miles ahead.
What is hyper threading
>>
They did fine. Their best APU out right now can play BF4 at 30fps on high settings

>>
>>47542036
>But otherwise it is only mobile APUs that hit those temperatures, as do all mobile chips.
Really? My mobile core 2 duo in a HP compaq doesn't go over 60 degrees celsius
>>
>>47542048
Fan was pretty large and it was on full blast. HWINFO showed it spinning at 3000rpms. Sounded like a jet engine and air was coming out like a heater. It was my first laptop, and it was by far the worst laptop I have ever used. The build quality was appalling compared to other HP laptops.

The Intel CPU's will always run cooler and will always be faster. AMD is literal shit at making CPU's nowadays.

>>47542077
Hyper-Threading isn't fake cores. Stop being retarded you nigger.

>>47542092
That's fucking terrible.
>>
>>47541966
>The CPU cores are based on a reworked Bulldozer architecture, called Piledriver. Although marketed as a quad-core processor, the A10-4600M includes only two modules with four integer-cores and two floating-point cores total. As a result, the CPU is not a true quad-core processor.
>this applies with all the amd apus and fx series

You are the shitposting baby here. Eat a dick, you amdscrub.
>>
>>47542024
That and the3420 m can overclock safely to 2.4ghz.
>>
>>47542106

My last laptop was a HP pavilion of some description with some i3. I honestly forgot the specifics, but I can honestly say it often hit the higher end of the 90's.

My sister's Acer with a C2D regularly overheats, even after replacing the thermal paste and cleaning the damn thing out.

I find the only differences in the temperatures of mobile chips is how quickly they reach the high temperatures.
>>
>>47542110
>That's fucking terrible.

Of course it is compared to a discrete graphics card, nigger.

It beats the shit out of Intel's graphics solutions.
>>
>>47542149
The cores are like a quad core atom. They are slow and underpowered. Far inferior to intel. You also need to accept the fact that it is an APU so it will heat up to a crazy temperature.
>>
>>47542110
>Integrated GPU

Yeah, the budget ones.

Any DV6/DV7 that isn't the 2xxx/1xxx series is generally pretty good as long as it isn't an AMD CPU model. The quality improved significantly after those two. The 3xxx series is alright with an AMD CPU though because Phenom II x4 BE.

Nice job, tech illiterate retard.
There is nothing which states a core must have entirely independent resources. The integer cores are entirely independent. Each one can independently control one of the 128bit FMACs. They simply share a front end.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/93046-the-dao-of-dozer-understanding-amds-next-gen-cpu

A two module APU has four cores.
A single module APU has two cores. Thats all there is to it.

>>
Jack of all trades, master of none.
Socket 775 Xeons and Core 2 Quads still give APUs a run for their money on the CPU processing section, and 775 Xeons are dirt cheap.

As for GPUs, any one who does any bit more than light/medium gaming has a dedicated GPU anyways.

C2Q and Xeons lack a comparable GPU, you would need to factor in a comparable GPU, like a R7 250 or 260, which adds almost 100 more, which is more than half the cost of the APU
The APU's are made for light/medium gaming, they're not performance parts, and aren't priced as such
There's no Intel CPU that's comparable in the GPU department to AMD solutions, only the Iris Pro which is only available on i7's, which cost a lot more than any APU
>>
>>47543489
It gets whooped by the 7 year old nehalem in most games. i7 920 @ ~3.6ghz beats the piss out of AMDs best.

Also, the i7 920 wasn't 7 years old when Vishera came out, it was 4 years old
>>
>>47543706
I said at 3.6ghz, every i7 920 could reach that speed. Its default clock is an embarrassingly low 2.66ghz. That bench dosent show the clockspeed of any chip.

Taking overclocks out of the equation then its fair to compare the best nehalem vs the best piledriver so the i7 975 or something, which as it happens turbos to 3.6ghz :)

My A10-5757m maxes at 62c while giving me 40-60fps in skyrim depending on where I am.

Lately it's been maxing out at 58c and averaging 52c during gaming cause I cleaned the heatsink and swapped the stock heat transfer paste with better stuff.
>>
>>47541935
>cleaned it out with vacuum cleaner full of dust in reverse
>used peanut butter as transfer paste

I've had five different APU laptops. Toshiba, Acer, HP and ASUS. None have been anything but capable and cool for the price. They actually fit my needs which was impressive for the A4.
>>
>>47543811
Not the guy you're resppnding to but I have an i7 930 at home, there's quite a lot of difference between 2.66 and 3.8Ghz on those.
