I'm a junior studying CS, and I just got my first internship offer ever. It's $7500 a month! Like, wtf is this industry? Are we headed for a crash?
>>
>>53602522
That's pretty good for an internship you fuck. That's $90,000 a year. You're making more than some people who have graduated are.
>>
Let me guess, you have to live in/around SF/SV?

Say goodbye to a third of your pay for rent.
>>
Country?
>>
>>53602522
>thinking that is bad

People who graduated and have work experience make here 13000 dollars per year. And this is for a normal job in IT.
>>
>>53602522
Get ready for when Uncle Sam wants his share. Set aside 20% for taxes.

uhhhhhhhh
>>
>>53602556
Oh I know, I just think it's weird, and highly unsustainable for a startup.

>>53602576
I do, though they're offering free housing for interns
>>
90k in SF = 20k quality of life in other states
>>
>>53602653
>free housing for interns
Do it do it do it do it!
>>
>>53602556
that's exactly the point he was making.

as for OP, no, i think we just haven't come to terms socially with the outsize impact that technology has on us. but MSR offered almost 2k more than that last summer.

1) anyone with a brain stem knows that you're exaggerating, which discredits you (because why would someone exaggerate unless they were on shaky ground)

2) internships tend to offer a stipend or bonus for housing.

You might argue some coefficient modifier on other costs (food, transportation, etc...) but if you want anyone to believe that the modifier is more than 1.5x then you're crazy.

>>
I was making the same for my internships. I'm making 100k a year out of school now.
>>
I got degrees in CS and Physics and make $55k doing maintenance on a multimillion dollar supercomputer.

Where the fuck are you working and where can I apply?
>>
>>53604762
kek, that's what I make being a neet in Scandinavia
>>
well, tell us what the work is, faggot
>>
>>53602603
I thought he was implying it was amazingly good. So good that it doesn't make sense and is not sustainable.
>>
>>53602522
>yfw you find out interns make more than actual employees
>>
they know that once you're settled into the industry you'll just have to negotiate to keep your job in when they endanger it with pajeet

Where are you guys hearing about these internships? I'm trying to find one for this summer as well.

Also a Sophomore in CS.
>>
>>53611509
I don't really hear about them, per say. I know what competitive companies offer summer internships and applied to those.

As for yourself, it's getting a little late in the recruiting cycle. You should look for more local companies. Try indeed.com or your school's job postings board. Otherwise ask your classmates if any of their companies are still hiring interns
>>
>>53611549
Thank you, I appreciate the advice.
>>
Did you people land an internship after your first year?
>>
>>53611509
I found my company at a career fair on campus. But I applied to other companies meanwhile online. I never submitted a cover letter or anything, just threw my resume at the wind. So apply to as many places as possible!

It's still not too late, maybe for big companies, but lots of startups are in their main hiring phases now. So check out AngelList or CrunchBase for places and shoot some resumes in.
