I think so, I installed OSMC on my pi and used the audio jack to output to my speakers and I kept getting this annoying constant buzz whenever I had my WiFi adapter or Bluetooth adapter in. It literally made it unusable so I had to output the music to HDMI and listen from my shitty monitor speakers

Good point but I'm pretty careful with the classics and I have the nano for if I'm working out or skiing or whatever. I honestly stream music alot on my Nexus 6p but I use the ipods at work because I have no reception so streaming isn't an option. Getting it open is the hardest part. Once that's out of the way, you just lift the lock on the ZIF connector, pop your SSD in an adapter,connect the adapter to the ZIF cable, and snap it back together.
Save up some money and get a Moto E 2nd gen with a 128gb sd card. Both of which are on sale right now and equal about $125. For that you also get a decent phone and, from my experience, Moto phones have good sound.

Why not just get a phone and have so many other options available? If he already has a phone, then just use that. Or get a phone with some fucking expandable storage. The phone I suggested (Moto E) has a battery that could probably get you through 24 hours of straight music listening with no browsing. You can always get a portable charger if for some reason that wasn't enough.

I bought an iPod touch 5th gen 32gb for $60 from a friend I just keep it in my car plugged in to my head unit and take it in to download music if I want to no complaints with the iPod though

I bought a 160gb iPod classic secondhand some years back for ~$120, one of the best purchases I ever made. The battery life is fantastic, and I'm nearing 100gb of music so the storage size is necessary.

Okay, so what am I and the millions and millions of other people who have problems with iPods doing to mess them up? Everyone I've ever known that has had one, it's shit out for some reason or another. Also, iPods are the only mp3 player that I ever had this problem with. All the other ones I had just died naturally due to old age but never had problems with the headphone jacks or the screens like I did with iPods. I even took extra precaution and got cases for it. From my experience, they're just shitty made and there were plenty of good mp3 players that were made with much better quality than iPods.

I use a Sony A17. Really good if you want a player with decent sound but nor really willing to pay for a Astell&Kern. I listen mostly to self-encoded mp3 320.
Best purchase I've ever made. I love non-smart devices because they're out of the planned obsolescence scheme smart devices are bound nowadays. It will keep working the same than now in 5, 10 or 20 years.

You can change the bit rate to be 320 they just have it at 128 as the default bc most people can't tell the difference and it saves on HDD space. They only reason i would suggest against using itunes is bc how fucking bloated it is
