Are you a Linux user wondering about why someone might choose BSD?
Give this a read: https://www.over-yonder.net/~fullermd/rants/bsd4linux/01

Thoughts on https://vez.mrsk.me/freebsd-defaults.txt anyone?

So, some time ago I came with the thought of trying BSD operating system. I started reading /g/ what you have to say about it.
I realized that there is more than one version of BSD and I've chosen DragonFly, which is apparently highly regarded by you. So, I downloaded DVD, burnt it and installed that OS. It was nice that it allowed by default to keep my Windows intact.
First boot was awesome. That looked and worked very different compared to Windows, but very nice. Unfortunately, from that it was only worse. And I realized what a piece of crap BSD really is.
Why don't you have proper configuration center in BSD? I tried changing some very BASIC options (like my touchpad configuration) and I couldn't find those options anywhere. I googled and I found bunch of old forum posts and obscure wikis that mainly told me to use command line.
Really, guvs? FUCKING COMMAND LINE IN CONSUMER GRADE OS IN FUCKIN 2016??? I couldn't believe my eyes. Windows devs realize that customers want GUI and make OS that doesn't require the use of command line.
I also found out that despite being advertised as largely compatible with Windows programs BSD still can't run basic Windows programs. I spend two days trying to install my MS Office. Then, when I finally did it through very buggy emulator called "Wine" (what a name!) I found out that it makes everything look like Windows 98. Hello? 2016? 90s called, they want their skins back!
Like that wouldn't be enough, I then tried removing BSD from my hard drive and being the power user I am I went to disk management in Windows. I removed BSD partition everything went nicely, it was clean and everything. I played some Word of Warcraft, switched my PC off and went to sleep. But when at morning I tried to boot my PC it turned out that BSD fucked up my Windows and I can't turn it on. REALLY? What is it? Revenge of the Shit OS? I spent whole days reinstalling Windows and I wasn't able to recover all my save games.
Never again. Fuck BSD. Period.

Why should I use *BSD instead of centos or Debian?

I read through it the other day. I think he has a lot of good points but many of his suggestions simply cannot be implemented the way he suggested.

While I was reading this I was wondering if this guy was from the OpenBSD project, it seems like he would prefer OpenBSD over FreeBSD.

So is there a way to get proper accented character support in pdksh on OpenBSD?

I know localization isn't OpenBSD's strong point, but holy shit, I had to install bash so the shell wouldn't freak out and let me delete the prompt every time i typed in an accented character. Other weird things happened to if I made a typo with an accented character.

Been meaning to get going on OpenBSD again. Love their documentation and coding style.

Is Absolute OpenBSD still considered a good starting point? Also what's the state of virtualization support these days? I know a few years back they were hesitant to work on it due to security concerns.

Absolute OpenBSD is great.

And yeah, virtualization is coming soon in the form of vmd/vmm.
