Does anyone have still a CRT screen? Do you like it?

Does anyone have still a CRT screen? Do you like it?
>>
>>53597312
I have one laying around, it's a 19" so it's huge. Works great, had it for about 15 years.
>>
i have one now, jsut waiting for a good local deal to get an lcd
>>
>>53597312
got one on my desk currently
don't have a PC that works but the monitor sits there
>>
>>53597312
Love mine for competitive melee.
Beyond that pretty useless desu
>>
Nope. They're terrible for your eyes.
>>
>>53597312
Yeah, it's okay. New video cards omit analog though. I have to XRandR magic to render on the good card and output through an old one.
>>
why on earth would anyone still use a CRT?
>>
>>53597764
crts have no latency you doofus
>>
>>53597764
muh scanlines
muh nostalgia
>>
>>53597312
Where does one get widescreen CRTs such as this?
>>
>>53597764
Low latency. I know a dude who was looking for a CRT TV for Call of Duty because he said his LCD had too much lag
>>
>>53597764
The CRTs that you can get for free are way better than the free LCDs.
>>
>>53597815
on ebay for a gorillion dollars.
>>
>>53597935
Yeah, I was looking for a Sony monitor a while back and the price was ludicrous.

I like CRTs more, but if I can't get widescreen I'll just stick with my LCD.

Yes, I was taking photos of mine tonight. You can see the pics in the /vr/ thread.

I like CRTs but after spending so much time researching and collecting them I'm ready to move on to newer technology. I'm looking at getting a higher than 4k setup going.

This monitor is displaying 2048x1536, but can only resolve about 800-1000 lines of that due to the coarseness of the shadow mask. It was made in 1995.
>>
>>53597764
Why on earth would you be on a technology board and ask such a stupid question as that?
>>
>>53597797
No scan lines on a monitor doofus
>>
>>53597637
crt tv? or did you get your wii to work on a crt monitor. if so, how?
>>
>>53597312

Yep, got a 20" LaCie Mitsubishi/Nec Diamondtron. Will show 2k at 80 hz but looks better at 1600x1200. Now all I need is another one just like it
>>
>>53600015
Prefer 1280*1024 @ 100hz. 80hz has visible flickering. 1600*1200 should get you 85
>>
>>53597312
Still have a CRT TV. Got it because it was cheap. Don't want to get rid of it because it still works just fine and I really don't want to move it (also thrift stores where I lived stopped accepting them recently).
>>
>>53597312
Two actually. One for retro vidya and one as a cheap second monitor.
If i could find a FW900 i would throw away my LCD screen for it.
>>53597764
zero latency, 120Hz+, better colors, better contrast, scanlines for retro vidya

19? Huge? I got this puppy still working, 22" native res is 1920x1440 73Hz but runs fine with that res on 85Hz too... Great for photo work on an old Mac or playing on SNES, PS2, Amiga 1200... use it for all kinds of shit, with I had a high quality CRT like that but just wide and little bigger for a main display of my workstation
>>
>>53597651
Source? I like the early 21st century lie from LCD manufactures how bad CRT's are, kek. Even the x-rays you get shoot at are many times weaker then a phone.
>>
>>53600709
Unless its like a IBM monitor IT WORNT HAVE SCANLINES dipshit

ahaha there was a dude selling a FW900 on a local online site for 10eur, the ad was a few months old so I was sure it was sold but when I called he sayd he trashed it few weeks ago because nobody was interested
>>
>>53601402
my philips crt tv has scanlines
>>
>>53601621
TV != Monitor

They are defined by the size/fines factor of the shadow mask, TV's have scanlines because the shadow mask is less fine.
>>
>>53601939
OP asked about CRT screen, means it's both monitor and TV, and i do have both in my room.
>>
>>53597312
yes your aren't true master race if you don't have a crt monitor
>>
>>53601939
the shadow mask doesn't cause scanlines, it's low resolutions which cause scanlines

pc monitors don't normally go below 480 lines, though you can halve that by double-scanning
>>
>>53597312
I've been meaning to pick one up for a while, just waiting for one to show up on Craigslist
>tfw missed out on getting $20 to take a 2048x1536 CRT off someone's hands because I couldn't drive at the time
>>
>>53602168
Forogt to mention I've got a PVM too
>>
>>53602163
shadow masks define's the physical limitations of resolutions, most monitors will go over their native resolution but it craps out because the beam ain't in sync with the shadow mask anymore and you only see some of it
>>
>>53602368
well, yes, but that's not related
the shadow mask limits how high you can go, but scanlines are only visible with low resolutions, independent of the mask dot pitch
>>
>>53597339
>it's a 19" so it's huge
Up until late January this year I (or rather me mum) had a 29" 4:3 TV unit from Philips. It was nice, survived being flooded twice, big enough for both our cats to sleep there at once and could be used as a jumping surface for them to try getting up on the bookstand. Too bad it was only ""HD ready"" (so 1366 × 768) and because of the aspect ratio about 1/3 part of the screen was cut off. Finally decided to switch for some cheapo Korean flat screen and boy did I forget this son of a bitch weighted like 50 kilos.
Donated to some friends and will be serving some time more - don't remember when we got it, but it must've been at least 7 years.

But it the market they actually classified between TV's and Computer monitors from the shadow mask fine'ness x size ratio, else you could sell TV's with VGA's as PC monitors too and that was some marketing tax shit, complicated...
>>
>>53602817
this is beyond off-track, you were never on the same track
>>
>>53602872
/g/ is like the digital version of people calling in to radio talk shows. some are trolling, some are genuine and contribute something, but then there's this subset of people who call in thinking they're contributing something and then it turns out they're just fucking nuts and need someone to listen to them.
>>
I did until a couple of years ago when it conked out. I liked it well enough but I only really used it because I'm poor as shit.

>>53597651
I get just as bad/worse eyestrain from LCD monitors. What gives me the worst eyestrain of all though is reading physical books.
>>
>>53602890
>then there's this subset of people who call in thinking they're contributing something
these ones always get to me

like, what they're saying might be useful/constructive if only it was told to the right person at the right time

the more i think about it, the more accurate your analogy seems
>>
>>53602931
it's so fucking infuriating. like you'll go down this rabbit hole with them trying in good faith to engage with them and then it'll be something like
>oh no man i wasn't the guy you were talking to at the beginning
or
>hey i was just talking about how things are in south africa
