while i did like the new search-all-auto_grabbed-search-engines from the omnibox i do think older people would find it confusing

so having a separate box for searches with icons to click for which search engine is very clear and excellent

but they should have included /not replaced/ this new type of search as optional instead of removing already working and useful stuff
>>
Can I still make it so that it displays the current active search engine, instead of that looking glass thing? No idea why they had to change that.
>>
I prefer it this way. The address bar gives suggestions from history and bookmarks, the search bar gives search suggestions, rather than mixing them up.

Enter should search or goto if valid URL. Suggestions should require a keyword in front of the search. Is this too difficult for normies to handle as default?

Address bar also works as a search bar using your default search engine. Also I think a separated search bar is a good idea because you can use with it multiple search engines easily where as if you only had the address/search bar combo you'd have to change your default search engine every time you want to, for example, search some definition in your only dictionary of choice
>>

I don't want my connection attempt to failover by submitting that address to a search engine.

>all nerds itt btfo

Our basic product strategy is that by focusing our engineering efforts
on engagement/retention of new users, we'll end up in a much better
spot, both in terms of overall product quality and our position in the
market, than if we focus on keeping small cohorts of existing users.
That tradeoff of existing users for new-user engagement is driving our
strategy with e10s, extensions, and other engineering priorities, and is
the basis for this decision.

Separate search bar is a aworthy option. Don't like it? Customize and remove it, no problem. You can use the "omnibar" as your default search bar, and even get suggestions on it if you wish...but make sure you set your default search engine and decide if you want suggestions on too.

The Search Bar lets you search via multiple engines, including the multitude of them you can add to Firefox. Hey, while I'm thinking of it... the only thing I dislike is that the Search Bar keeps whatever text you put there after you search using it... is there a reason for this, or is there a setting (addon) to disable this?

Finally, if you want to search, get the Firefox addon "Disconnect Search". It lets you search all the big search engines while proxying through a general portal so you can't be tracked (ie its like using Startpage.com, but instead hosted by Disconnect.me). Really useful,
>>
>>53598407

This.

>>53595935

Admittedly, they are moving both Hello and Pocket to full Addons, so I can't bitch too much. Pocket is the only one I really dislike, because Pocket is a proprietary service; I'd rather see Firefox have an accounts/Sync like open source version of Pocket. Maybe that is what they're working on? Its good functionality, but it should be an open standard, open source etc.

Hello is great except for the lack of starting a chat/call on Android. Hello is open source, free as in beer, uses an open standard that people can enable or disable as they like etc.. and is WAY the fuck better than Skype. Its a suitable voice/video/messaging replacement, if they'd just develop it a little more and either have a standalone Android app and or integrate it to Firefox there. Oh, and add encryption.

what if you want to search something that resembles a url? you can't put it in the address bar or it will try to connect to the url instead of searching it on the search engine.
>>
>>53604175
Does Firefox not support search keywords? For example in Opera if I was searching for something it thought of as a url I'd just add a g before the search and it'll google it instead
>>
>>53604175
Those who need to do this frequently are probably smart enough to just install a separate search bar, use search keywords or some other efficient solution. Most people don't need to do this often though, so if they do they can simply go to google first and then type in the search string that resembles or is an url.
