Anons who are RUNNING WINDOWS 10 and have TAKEN ACTION to turning off updates/'botnet': how are you liking the OS?

No trolls allowed: if it gets out of hand im gonna make you fuckers post your specs as proof.

I want a DEFINITIVE up-to-date answer as to whether win10 runs well or not, not just from cucx running a 2001 version of linux

I opted for linux after I installed Win 10. Windows kept freezing and the forced updates overwhelmed by bandwidth. Linux just werks for me.
>>
>>53576304
It's not much better than 7, which is actually Vista SP3. 10 is just Vista SP6 with native virtual desktop management thrown in along with metro fuckery. It's not like going from windows 3.1 to 95, or XP to Vista.

The only real advantage 10 has over 7 is WDDM 2.0.

Windows 10 raped my daughter and stole my wallet. Would not recommend.
>>
I switched to Linux, don't miss Windows tbqh familia. I've got a 7 virtual machine now for the software that doesn't work with WINE anyways.
>>
>>53576393
did you disable automatic updates?

im not finding people who have proof that it "turned back on" after completely disabled
>>
>>53576494
Home Premium can't disable updates. Pro and Enterprise can through group policy.

The problem is when you do a manual update, you will end up having automatic updates turned back on and several of your fixes out of whack again.

installed windows 10
then proceeded to run a 12 hour investigation to turn off all the switches and home-phoning on the OS

Still feels like my privacy is being violently penetrated by big black corporate dick

games run well enough tho, same as win7 desu
>>
>>53576494
I did turn them off. This didn't solve the freezing issue.
>>
>>53576519
I also tried a clean install like another anon suggested.

>>
>>53576514
why do you still feel that way (privacy penetrated)? can you find logs or is it just all in your head?

>>53576508
can you upgrade from 7 home to 10 professional?

>>53576547
when did it freeze, randomly?
>>
>>53576304
It's ok.
>>

It's called a fresh install. Fuck upgrading, straight up upgrading has a higher chance of fucking up your system. Grab the ISO and dump it in another partition.

I'm keeping my win10 offline.

Turning on the outbound firewall disabled updates for me. Unintentionally at that.

Been running win10 (the alphabet soup enterprise one) for a good few months.

It has a memory leak I cant get rid of in the OS itself, has persisted through 4 clean installs. Seems to be in the system scheduler.

Had no trouble turning off auto updates, all the right drivers work/everything was auto detected, etc.

Total resource usage is marginally less than it was on 7. Settings are well hidden and most shit has to be changed in at least two places, they did a good job of normie-proofing it but its less friendly to people who know what theyre doing.

Ive seen zero evidence of privacy invasion, all my I/O is accounted for.

Because, once your trust in something is stomped on the ground and spat on, no matter how much you patch it up and tell yourself it's gonna be okay, I still feel dirty using w10

To be honest, I have no idea why people claim issues with Win10. In my experience, Win10 is pretty smooth, and has no problems.

I use an Acer Aspire E1-572-6831 laptop I bought a year or two ago, and it came with Win8.1. I upgraded to Win10 when it was available through the Windows Updates.

I recently clean installed Win10 a few months ago, simply because I wanted to start anew (my old installation had lots of files and unused programs).

I allowed for updates in the new installation (the old one, I turned off via Services; I have Home).
Turned off everything in the Privacy section of Settings, and used Spybot Anti-Beacon. I also installed Classic Start, and used the classic start menu.

I don't see ads, neither in the start menu nor lock screen (it's easily turned off in the Lock Screen section of Personalization: a button that says, "Get fun facts, tips, tricks and more on your lock screen").
Also, the built-in Win10 apps, they are easily uninstalled.

Get-AppxPackage -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage

In Powershell. Simple as that.

Updates, it has never been forced. I don't have a problem with it. It has never uninstalled a program nor has it broken my system. It is fast and seamless. In other words, Windows Updates has not frustrated me once.

It has not taken much work to get this Win10 system to work the way I want it to.

I know, given the nature of /g/, that I'm a shill, and some shekels have been deposited into my bank account, but seriously, you shouldn't be using Linux if you can't even get a babby modern operating system such as Windows 10 to work the way you want it to, with changing settings to proper maintenance.

Pic related: my desktop.

It's clean, it looks nice, and works seamlessly.
>>
With ClassicShell installed, its almost exactly like Windows 7. There hasn't been a single perceptible benefit to upgrading, nor has there been any notable negatives in day to day use.
Its the same shit.

Install Gentoo

I installed Windows 10 and ran DWS.exe. FUCKING METRO APPS WERE STILL THERE even though I checked "remove Metro apps"

Immediately installed Gentoo
