is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component

if you're a beginner to linux and find mint isn't your thing, then yes. I've only been playing around with linux for a year, so I still rely on Ubuntu, but I'll probably move to Debian soon. Ubuntu is quite nice for gaming, I must say.
