Let's discuss the future of web browsers.
I am really concerned about the general direction almost all browsers are going. I have been fine with Firefox for the last 11 years or so, but the recent events have made me flip my shit. This includes the adding of antifeatures no one ever wanted, like australis, webrtc, addon signing, hello and pocket and the removal of a bunch of good features everyone liked. the cherry on top is mozilla dropping XUL extensions.
If everything continues like this, Firefox will suffer the same destiny as every other browser. It will turn into a Chrome. I dont know about you guys but internet will never be the same for me if i cant have my customizable browser with all the addons i could ever want.
>>
>>53569380
To be honest I'm more concerned with how websites are going.

If they weren't such bloated pieces of shit then we would be able to use almost any shitty browser like Midori or what have you.

But no, gotta cram countless of scripts and flash files in there because when you mouse over a button it needs to have a 4 minute animation.
>>
>>53569397
this is true, but it can be dealt with with addons such as noscript. the thing is that the existence of such addons will not be possible if mozilla drops XUL extension support while trying to imitate chrome.
>>
>>53569397
yup
i think fixing websites will turn fix browsers to some extent
i have always wondered why autist webmasters cram so much un needed shit into their sites
it just creates security holes and makes the site slower
>>
>>53569440
noscript etc generally breaks things because websites have been built around the assumption that everyone will run their shitty scripts and flash files
>>
>>53569487
>tfw news sites try to block adblocking
>noscript fucked their adblock block
>>
>>53569487
yeah i see your point
but some missing animations or other decorations dont bother me much, as long as the main content of the page such as text is there. but sometimes i even come across a site that is built entirely on top of javascript. thats not cool.
i generally agree with you, the web would be a better place if websites were made by sane people and not hipsters, dunno if that would help with the issues with browsers tho
>>
>>53569571
browsers need to change but i think changing websites would make it much easier to change the browsers
>>
problem isn't that web browsers suck, it's the web itself that sucks. internet has grown fat due advertising, corporate interests & social media.

what we need is to revisualise the homepage concept so we can start purging all the useless clutter and make it usable once again.

Fuck 3.0.
We need to get back to 1.0.

i'd like to see something in the same vein as this page, but with images & html5-embedded media

I agree with this, fixing websites (and mentalities) will fix web browsers. We're trying to use web browsers for everything imaginable, when they should primarily be used for browsing text and images (aka info) and not watching fucking 4K videos on flash player. Leave those things to media players.

Sites with 5+ youtube/vine/twitter/etc videos, multiple ads and/or popup ads, canvas animations on every link and image, 20 MiB of jquery and javascript files are NOT good practices.

Make the internet great again.
>>
>>53570740
Id be happy if flash would just fucking die

Going all nazi "YOU MUST HAVE SEPERATE APP FOR WATCHING ONLINE VIDEOS OR YOU SUCK" might not be the most sane way to do shit ever.

Then again, autism
>>
>>53571132
Adobe is 99% phased out. Even adobe recommended not using flash anymore. Youtube doesn't use flash, I don't think facebook does, etc.
>>
>>53571185
its nowhere near 99% phased out

when major shit like twitch for example uses it, we both know that smaller websites no one has heard of is still clinging onto it for dear life
>>
>removal of a bunch of good features everyone liked

What are these features and what makes them so important to you? I'm sorry, I haven't used Firefox since '09.
>>
>>53570740
i kinda do this already, i have umatrix to block everything that is not first party html or images
but then again many sites do not want to show me their text and images without js
bring back web1.0

will edge be able the compete with chrome now that extenstions is on the horizon? Edge feels really smooth an i hope it's gonna be a good alternatvive to chrome but as it stands now there is just no competition. The resonsiveness in the UI of chrome compared to firefox is a fucking joke.

Tab groups is one example. I loved that shit. Let me see all my tabs and sort them too.
>>
>>53571703
fuck tab groups

Tree style tabs wont be doable without XUL
>>
>>53571703
>>53571733
Is that similar to pinning tabs on Chrome?
>>
>>53572127
No.

Good thing all of these web browsers are Open Sores, just fork it and make the web browser you want ...

That website looks like shit, all websites should look like a wikipedia page

All websites should look like however the creator wants them to.

not reading a single post in here, all of you are wrong.
parallel browsing. In gpu rendering. all is the future
nothing you've discussed is the future.

False, horrible idea since these "creators" are nothing more than hipster dipshits who only are how flash their website is. LOOK AT MUH INFINITE SKROLING
>>

Because web devs are dumb and it's only going to get worse.

>I'm enjoying my freedom
Seems like you enjoy mediocrity as well, since all you did was complain without offering any real alternative other than "i dont like it go back to the way it was before"
You have the option to fork it and attempt to make a browser that fits your ideas on how the web should look and function
>>
>>53572392
>You have the option to fork it

Yes

>and attempt to make a browser that fits your ideas on how the web should look and function

How the web looks and functions depends primarily on w3c and other such players.
Looking at the status of the web today you could they say they are amateurs.
>>
>>53572383
kek this
>phones have 8 cores
>can only use 1 for browsing

fucking garbage.

Which future? Opera became a Chrome clone, Mozilla is becoming an almost Chrome clone wiht a different engine, Edge is a Chrome clone, every new Browser is a Chrome clone...

We are done, it is over. There is no future.
