Just bought a rosewill rgb80. Realized it doesnt have cherry mx blues right after I bought it. How bad did I screw up? Are the knock offs any good at all?
>>
Guise I am in the process of sourcing stuff for a whole new battlestation to start building after moving.
my last keyboard was a razer blackwidow 2013, I know I know >razer, that I bought because it had MX cherry blue switches. which I've come to demand in any personal keyboard. typing on anything else is like hell for my fingers.
What do you reccommend and is there any mods besides the oring mod, already done it, that will reduce the noise?
>>
I have a ducky year of the goat in browns, how hard would it be to find rgb mx blues and replace the brown switches on my keyboard? Would I need soldering experience?
>>
>>53566884
ive used a keycool 87 with kale blues for 2 weeks, and i must say that i like the kale blues mor than chery mx blues
>>
>>53566951

You do need to solder to do so.

It is a pain in the ass changing switches, not really worth the trouble to be honest. Especially on a boring old full sized board.

Would be easier to just get a fresh full sized PCB and start from scratch.

Also Greens are like blues but better, give them a try.
>>
>>53566512
Why? announcing these things is a bannable offense.
>>
>>53566884

Its not really a big deal its still much better than normal domes. The knockoffs I tried were like 95% as good as a cherry switch.

>>53566951

You should at least a first experience with soldering before you do your entire ducky
>>
>>53566947
also, should I get a tenkeyless for my battlestation? I've been wanting one for so long to go along with an extra long mousepad but I find myself playing gmod/Arma/etc that I can use the numpad on for binds/etc. how well do you get along without your numpads?

>>
>>53566982

>>53567013
I wasn't going to dive in head first and start soldering the board straight up, was planning to do a practice project before if the board would need soldering(I asked because I've read some boards don't need to)
>>

It is VERY rare for a board not to need soldering to remove a switch.

There is one company that makes two (very ugly) boards and thats it.
>>

>>
>>53570213
>>53570220
The varmillo that's currently dropping comes with a full aluminum case, backlighting and dyesubbed pbt caps, and it's not even 20 bucks more than that numpad thing.
>>
>>53570240
That's not a numpad.
>>
>>53570263
It is in terms of layout.

Yes, I know you can also fully program it, but looking at the materials and the price it's still a total ripoff. A teensy with an atmega chip costs twenty bucks and a TKL on massdrop with pbt caps, backlighting and and a full aluminum case costs barely 20 bucks more than that "gamepad". 150 bucks for a fraction of that is absurd.
>>
>>53570334
>150 bucks for a fraction of that is absurd.
You clearly haven't been in this hobby long enough. Limited run shit will always be expensive, especially Al cases.

Note that I am not saying the numpad is a "good" price, it's that it's beyond the scope of typical consumer electronics and should not be compared as such.

Do you think the price is absurd? Duck butterfly lightpad went for $173+shipping on its GB. TGR-Tris, that is pretty similar to this one that massdrop is selling, is probably going to be $180-200. This is how custom boards work.

I paid $250 for this HHKB, tore it down, saw the extent of the shitty flimsy plastic case and the generic green PCB and returned it.

Trash.

The CM Rapid-I is around $100
There are a lot of cheap keyboards on Amazon for example, maybe not always with cherry switches but clones. Some clones are alright light Outemu

You mean masterrace.

I tested blue, red, black and brown when I was in Japan last.
They have the varieties on display in Yodobashi so you can try them out. Blacks a shit. Legitimately the worst switch for anyone who will do a lot of typing.

I've got a Dell SK-8115 right now and love it but the numberpad gets in the way.

I don't need arrows or lights or even letters just something compact that doesn't feel like a toy or rocks
>>
>>53579480
How did you feel about the tactility of blues compared to browns?

I've had my hands on every cherry except for grays of both variants and I found that the tactility of browns just sucked compared to any other tactile cherry.
>>
>>53579514
The thing is that you dont really pay more for backlights on prebuilt keyboards.
>>
>>53579549
Well if you're looking for something really cheap there is the Magicfore 68 with Outemu for about $40. I have one, I really like it
>>
>>53579565
I don't want the loud clicking, otherwise blues would be fine.

The keyboard I'm planning to get when I go back in a couple of weeks comes in each variety so I will test them again before I make my final decision but browns seem the best to me. I would go for reds except I want the actual actuation feedback.

Browns use to be the most suggested switch in the beginning. But now that most of these same brown users have moved on to other switches, they frown upon anyone still using them.

I got started on browns, but moved to Gateron clear. However, I would still recommend browns (or blues) to new users.

I got a new set of keycaps to replace the UV damaged keys on my AT101, and all of the keys fit except for the caps lock key. The stem on the keycap is ~1mm off, and if the stem was in the right spot it would fit fine. Does anyone have any ideas on either modifying the keycap or the switch to make it fit? It bothers me a bit to have the original caps lock key.
