Fill me up senpai, just got this bad girl today, weighs like 65 lbs.

about 250
How are you going to explain to your parents why your electric bill is so much higher and why your bedroom is so loud?
>>53565581
Parents? I am an adult mother fucker. I'll throw that shit on the ground.
>>53565541
Not sure why they would sell an enclosure that valuable for so cheap.
>>53565598
Been looking at picking one of those up. Do the internal raid controllers work in HBA mode for something like ZFS?
>>53565734
Well I am ripping out the guts and going to use it as a JBOD with supermicro's power board that mounts in the middle.

Depends which one you get, one has a SAS2 expander backplane, the other a direct. The One I linked is direct. As per the HBAs, they are software raid if i remember correctly.

have a hard time getting it to work with newer things.

Is this a oven?
>>53565718
65 lbs is not a price.

>Do the internal raid controllers work in HBA mode for something like ZFS?
No, they usually come with an Adaptec which does not support JBOD or HBA mode.
Get an IBM M1015 and crossflash it to the 9211i IT firmware.
>>53565846
Or just get an hba with no need for flashing a raid card, like an LSI 9206
>>53565987
HBA would be preferable but the M1015 is about $80 on ebay. Hard to beat that price.
>>53565541
Not bad. What are you planning on using for drives?
I've gotten rid of most of my 3.5" stuff. I'm using either Dell MD1220's or HP D2700's.
And 600GB SFF 10K SAS. A lot of them.
>>53566058
The 9206 is probably more expensive because it has 4 ports instead of 2. That said, for what I'd use it for that's probably overkill.
>>53566091
In general HBAs tend to be more expensive because more people are doing ZFS. Most of these cards are overkill. A 3gbps SAS card has a theoretical throughput of up to 3GB/s using all 8 ports. You aren't likely to hit that with spinning disks.
>>53566113
Not that anon, but they can be had cheap. I picked up a pair of Dell 6GB HBA's for $20US each.
Dell SAS 6GB Dual Port PCI-E HBA (PN: 120NW)
>>53566181
That works, ebay?
>>53566275
Yeah. I'm not sure the buyer knew what they were selling.
>>53566508
People in my area do that a lot, they pick up ex-govt or business servers at auction for like $5-$10, then sell the hard drives out of them on eBay for like $50 a pop. Everything else they either resell as a whole or strip it apart and sell individually cheap as fuck.
