>got this laptop for ~$190 recently
>retail $250
> 2 GB RAM
>14" 720p screen
>64GB eMMC
>Celeron N3050 processor
Is there a better bang-for-buck laptop for basic web browsing and word processing?
I paid about $1150 for a MacBook in 2008 with the same RAM and a smaller screen.
With computers getting this cheap, it seems to me like we are on the verge of allowing even 3rd world inhabitants access to relatively powerful and useful computers.
>>53564831
>even 3rd world inhabitants
good luck, they can barely manage electricity and not dying from aids
>>53564831
Used business laptops > new cheap laptops
>>53564831
I have a Toshiba Chromebook 2 Its $250 and it has 2gb ram and a 16gb ssd but it comes with 100gb of Google drive for 2 years has amazing battery and a pretty nice screen
>>53564831
>even 3rd world inhabitants access to relatively powerful and useful computers.
Nigger, it's 190 in the US. Garbage like pic related is 420 where I live.
Now why the fuck would people buy garbage like this when you can buy some shitty APU(full pc) that can let you play GTA V for less than 500 bucks?.
>>53564831
>$190
>for an atom netbook
you know that you can buy an equally specced tablet for $50, right?
>>53565192
not really. Even a low end modern atom would destroy an ARM based device price around $50
>>53565184
Try using your desktop as a laptop

>>53565217
I meant an atom tablet.
>>53564869
This.
Also >>53565147
I love my Chromebook still, and it's one of the old ones. Unless you absolutely need Windows applications, they're excellent alternatives.
>>53565217
You kow you can get Atom tablets, right?
>>53565242
show me an atom cpu tablet around $50
Best thinkpad for under $300?
+ips
+somewhat thin
>>53565222
It doesn't matter if it's not for playing games. What matters is that it's too expensive for the shit it is.
>Try using your desktop as a laptop
Just buy a phone.

Forgot to say, that notebook's like 530 and I found it really "cheap", buy it in some normalfag store and we're talking about 650+
I really liked HP Stream 11 and 13, mostly 13.
They compromise in all the right places, even though they look too flashy.
I got a G50 for $240 on newegg + $20 for 4GB laptop RAM
Specs after extra RAM installation:
8GB RAM
1TB HDD
quad-core A8-6410 APU up to 2.4 GHz
768p 15.6" screen
Shit is so fucking cash.

Oh and about > it seems to me like we are on the verge of allowing even 3rd world inhabitants access to relatively powerful and useful computers.
Sounds great on paper, but even 200$ machines still launch for about as much as the minimum wage goes for where I live (brazil), so not really.

>>53565408
nigger it was a $240 laptop, I wasn't expecting a 4k screen
The G50 with the A8 APU is the best budget laptop hands down.
>>53565433
Doesn't excuse shit. I bought my laptop for $250 3 or 4 years ago and it's got a better screen than that.
>>53565451
What celeron processor?
>>53565466
Core2 Duo actually
>>53565384
Which modern thinkpads come with an IPS screen again?
Looking at getting pic related tomorrow. I currently have a T420 but honestly, I barely use it to it's full potential in terms of CPU power, and it only gets maybe 4 hours on a full charge if I have the screen at 50% brightness and CPU load average around 20%. This is running Ubuntu MATE 15.10.
I was considering this Chromebook because I asked myself realistically what I use my laptop for.
>Notes
>Viewing e-books
>Web browsing
>Occasional use to watch movies on while my desktop screen is busy
Not to mention this laptop has USB 3.0, 1080p screen, etc.
>I'll probably be actually using ChromeOS too.
>>53565484
It's still shit compared to my A8.
>>53565519
I'd take a first gen Atom, it's a fucking laptop. Yours may be better specced but mine's better quality.
>>53564831
Not bad if you live In a third world shithole
>>53565513
I'll probably be actually using ChromeOS too.
No you won't. Also why the fuck did you use greentext here?
>>53565657
to draw attention to that in particular. I plan on using (Attempting to at least) ChromeOS. Is it that bad?
>>53565669
>Is it that bad?
Well, it's basically just chrome and a few shortcust to google web sites
>>53565364
What's minimum wage there? It's around 500 here I think.
>>53565689
oh fuck me I found ChromeOS can't even access network drives without a bunch of bastardization. What the fuck kind of joke is ChromeOS?
I just want something relatively small, 1080p screen, and under $400. Money isn't a problem, But I don't need top tier hardware to take notes and watch fucking movies. I'm just sick of my current T420 for its size, heat output, and mediocre battery life.
How about Microsoft Surface? I can get a Surface Pro 2 with i5-4200u, 4gb ram, 64gb ssd, 1080p screen for $350.
Surface 3 non pro with intel atom x7, 128gb ssd, 4gb ram, 1080p is $450
I would consider an android tablet, but any android tablet worth getting is $300+.
>>53565837
If you're cool with tablets I'd go for a Teclast X98 Air
>>53565433
It would be better if the screen was 14 or 13 inches and 720p. I got a budget laptop like that once, and that resolution combined with a shitty glossy TN panel made me want to die.
>>53565267
My laptop kek
>>53564869
this. got my maxed out t420 tor $175. 2nd gen i7m and 8gb ram isn't utter shit.
>>53565450
this
>>53564864
As if you know. Leave your mother's basement faggot.
For $200-$300ish should I get a chromebook or laptop? For web browsing, watching media and torrenting. Any recommendations?
>>53570693
Used laptop
>>53570693
Laptop. Get the G50 from newegg, it's still under $300.
Buy a 4GB laptop RAM stick (like $18) too as the second RAM slot on the G50 is empty.
I would do it today if possible, I usually see G50s stay above $300 most of the time.
>>53570832
Enjoy your bedbug infestation.
>>53570859
Do they still have that superfish shit?
>>53570883
dank meme anon
i got a c720 4gb ram Chromebook on eBay for 41$ with a not working screen. Turns out the cable had come unplugged. Swapped the 16gb ssd for a 32gb ssd from another Chromebook that only had 2gb ram that i got for 20$ on cl with a broken keyboard, and put a free copy of windows 10 from my university. Then i bought a keyboard for 30$ for the 2gb ram chromebook and sold it for 100$ that same week. So 41+20+30 spent is 91, and i sold the other chrome book for 100, so i received 9$ in the end. Bretty gud desu.
>>53570972
Nope, seems like they fixed that fuckup. No users have complained about pre-installed malware on G50s AFAIK.
>>53570859
shittiest laptop ive ever bought.
Wifi randomly stops working, 3 hours batttery max and apparently they like to eat hard drives too.

ASUS Eeebook X205TA. Retails for around $240 - 260 CAD but you can find it for $180 USD. 32GB eMMC, 2GB RAM, 1366x768 11.6" screen, Bay Trail-T Quad Core 1.33 GHz. The specs are alright, but the selling point is the battery life. You can use browse the web for 12 - 13 hours easily, watch videos for 8 - 9, and do both for roughly 9 - 10 hours. I bought mine used for $100 CAD and the battery is still amazing. Just a few minor blemishes but it performs very well and it's just under a pound so it's very easy to carry.
Never owned a laptop but why do people bother complaining about bloatware or whatever. Surely people don't just use the OS install that came with the device.
>>53564831
You can get quadcore pentium at that price with 4GB ram
>>53572038
Does it stutter with too many tabs or videos going? Is the screen complete shit?
>>53571969
Sorry to hear you got a bad unit. I got one for $270 and I haven't had any problems with it. Battery life is 6 hours for me but that's because I downclock the processor to 1.6 GHz and set the screen brightness to 50% most of the time.
>>53570977
That is stupid.
You should have just kept it.
$9 dollar profit is nothing.
