What went wrong?
Nothing OP. Linux saved the day for outdated OS like Microsoft. Now we all enjoy crazy outdated architecture like hot-rodded Intel x86.

Nothing, it's literally still the best cpu architecture to date. ARM has been dominating mobiles for a while but is on suicide watch ever since the zenfone 2 proved to have better battery life than phones with Cortex A53 ARM modules.

t. Intel & AMD shareholders

Actually I invested in VIA

I wish. Currently waiting on a phone with a goldmont atom SoC
Nothing really. It was not great in 1980 but it's been continually improving.

linax is out of date software tho

Nothing.

outdated instruction set they have to keep supporting for compatibility reasons

It will probably get over taken by ARM architecture in the next decade
Look at most university research papers on cisc vs risc and you will see that cisc still wins out over all. I used to think ARM should win out any year now until I took a course where all we did was analyze architectures and saw that x86 is still very much in the lead
FBI/NSA/Intel/Israel/Mossad firmware.

Anything would be in the lead if you poured the amount of money into it Intel did. They've been polishing a turd, they got it really shiny, but it's still a turd

Keep waiting you fag it's never happening
X86 can't trump over an architecture that specialises in power saving.
Also ARM on suicide watch? Don't make me laugh, just because of that one dumb browser benchmark, you've been spouting this bullshit all the fucking time.
X86 has no future in phones, even zenfone 3 won't be using an x86 chip. Meanwhile ARM CPUs are developing more and more every day.
Pic related is an upcoming ARM CPU from a Chinese brand, it will cost <30$ per chip, do you think your atoms can compete in the same power consumption bracket?
