What did they mean by this?
>>
>>53559000
They meant that the program they make "Microsoft SQL Server", which was previously exclusive to windows, is now available for linux.
>>
>>53559059
Well, it was based on Sybase's SQL server anyway, so porting it probably required next to nothing.

Why the fuck would anyone use that shit over PostgreSQL?

That's Oracle

"Effort" means nothing. Photoshop probably takes little effort to port too, but that doesn't mean they will make it or be willing to support it.
>>
Embrace Extend Extinguish. I suspect Microsoft SQL Server will suck as many dicks as Mono currently does.
>>
Means they want to port their software to other systems to make more profit, everyone else does the same

Microsoft realized it can't survive from its own platform anymore like it used to

You mean that open source reverse engineered freetard shit?

He read a prank cue card and now they can't go back on it
>>
>>53559248
Because they signed a 10+ years contract.
That should be illegal but we are talking about microsoft, so it's not surprising.
>>
Windows is far from the cash cow that it once was. Microsoft is becoming a cloud services company, hence the push to get its software on as many platforms as possible.

It is now owned by microshit
>>
>>53559000
Because they're losing hard on the server side and microsoft only cares about compatibility when they're losing. The problem with microsoft is that they already burned a lot of bridges with their competitors because everyone knows that if they gets a significant marketshare in that areas they'll try to lock their users with anticompetitive practices.

LEL
I like the way you MERGE, boy.
>>
I heard some of the best features (SSRS,SSAS,SSIS) won't ship with the Linux version.

As far as mssql vs postgres.... SSIS, better stored procedures, job scheduling, easy set up and integration with the largest OS install base, handles oltp and DW workloads well out of the box. It's not free, but the support is great and when you run a bi team and have to integrate at least 10 different database platforms the feature set is unmatched.

You'd think so, but if they release the only shit they have that locks people to windows they might just extenguish themselves.
>>
>>53559059
So, what they mean is they are expanding their spyware and botnet to include all variations of linux distro`s. Amirite
>>
he will poo on linux soon
>>
>>53564017
Just to recap, what is the shit microsoft has pushed to other OS?

>Office (to OS X)
>.NET(or just C#?)
>VS
>now SQL server

What else and what's left for them? Third party software or DirectX?
>>
>>53563966
>better stored procedures
WAT
T-SQL is a joke.
>>
No one uses Windows Server in serious server applications, and pejeet is trying to change that.

Won't catch on because Postgres/MariaDB/Mongo is better in pretty much every way and for every situation
>>
Extend, embrace, extinguish.
Or something like that.

Their plan is to get people who use linux into SQL, so then they can be like 'hey I can just use windows for this' and then fuck linux over harder when they end support for SQL on linux.
>>
>>53561216
creepy image
>>
>>53566901
This. It will be good for legacy support, tho. "Your backend on Win2003 is unsupported, we'll deploy it on Linux+MSSQL in the meantime and develop a new Postgres backend later".
>>53566981
Nope.
> hey I can just use another commercial software to run this commercial software and pay more money for it! What a great idea!
Not gonna happen.
>>
>>53567142
>Not gonna happen.
Hey I didn't say it would work, I just said this was their plan.
