>Dr Roshy John heads Robotics and Cognitive Systems at Tata Consultancy Services in Kochi. However, a project he attempted during his leisure has caught the attention of tech and auto enthusiasts online.
>The operating system for the autonomous Tata Nano project is based on Linux and has been created by Dr John’s team. The project has completely been financed by his savings and pooling resources from patents he owns. You can catch a glimpse of John’s project in the video below.

That claim (as usual) is nonsense. Retrofitting a car for self-driving has never been the issue and anyone with 3-digits IQ and EE 101 under their belt can do it.
If it can manage to drive itself on Indian roads without killing either its occupants or anyone else on the road that is extremely impressive.
How much for a retrofit Hindustan Ambassador?
This looks better than Geohot's shit

Having worked a couple years with indian expats,I bet 100$ that this software will crash the car within an hour when used on an actual (crowded) road.

Idk, a lot if companies are making some good crowd maneuvering nn's.
This is actually a fairly decent technical achievement as this means he's written programs to deal with slippery road conditions. Useful for icy roads, or perhaps roads covered in human excrement.
