what's the best way to back up my phone

Depends on what you want to backup. For files theres owncloud and syncthing, for other stuff you can probably join the botnet or use some of the before mentioned as root, tho not sure how you need to config it for permissions

How often should I make a backup /g/? In all my years of being alive I haven't had a HDD die of old age yet. I even hooked up an almost 10 year old HDD to get some data off it just the other day. 152

Someone might want to make list/image of good backup solutions to recommend to people in first or second post?

I could do it, but few edgy fags are already quite butthurt when they see my infographics
anyway my recommendations for your consideration

>Windows
Veeam Endpoint Backup
>Linux
Borg Backup

HONORABLY MENTION ALTERNATIVES

>Windows
Syncback
CrashPlan
Cobian Backup

>Linux
rsync + crontab

Why would i. I format and delete everything. Everything is temporary. The only thing i need to save are stocked in a 35 inches explosive proof safe.
>>
>>53557220
>>rsync + crontab
really why is there any reason for it to be more complicated than this. You need a big third-party application just to copy files?
>>
>>53557247
because what you get is just exact copy of your data
but if you want to have snapshots from various time periods?
and what if you want to save space by deduplicating those data?

thats where borg backup comes in
https://borgbackup.readthedocs.org/en/stable/

Now for windows solutions
>Veeam Endpoint Backup
that works kinda like acronis, but its free
it makes backup of your partitions and they can easily restored to the moment it was taken
and I mean windows whole.. not just data, but system if it gets borked...

and stuff like cobian backup.. it can deal with opened/locked files through shadow copy
so something like backup running while working with something and it gets skipped wont happen
>>
I ve never made a backup in 15years. So far so good

if you want that and are smart enough to run Linux, there's already LVM, btrfs, and ZFS.

if you're a Windows user you probably neither care nor have enough data to make it worthwhile, because you can always just redownload muh gaems from Steam. Copy your shit onto an external drive once a week, and delete the oldest folder when it fills up. Sorted, and you didn't have to pay some schmuck $39.99

thats local backup on the same drive
kinda like prevention only from your fuckup, not from hdd / file sytstem / house on fire / shits stolen/... fuck up

>you didn't have to pay some schmuck $39.99
all of the shit listed is 100% free
and you have quite low opinion on windows users kek
>>
>>53557524

well if you're backing up stuff you need another drive to begin with, to put your backups on. Unless you're burning discs or something, but that's trivial to do on any OS.
>>
>>53557099
Well you're lucky then, start making backups for when you DO lose your data.
>>
>backup drive failed on me and I lost most of my stuff from 2014 and on

I have a second backup drive with stuff prior to 2014 that I dug up from storage at least

and all my music, config files, and project files, and all my important documents saved cloud storage.

But holy fuck I'm so upset. Just happened instantly. Thanks WD.
>>
thanks op, making one now as copy on my pendrive is 2 months old already.

my system depends on data:
a) important data on main pc (mostly smaller stuff)
b) important data on homeserver ssd (mostly smaller stuff that i want accessible from other pcs/laptops at home)
c) less important data - everything is on homeserver - stuff like chanfolder, music, some small useful programs that i need once in a while. i'm not a hoarder so also on homeserver ssd.
d) bigger data dump - stuff like movies i plan to watch, game isos, porn, on homeserver 2tb hdd.

backups:
a) on homeserver hdd and pendrive
b) on homeserver hdd and pendrive
c) on homeserver hdd
d) no backups.

all are manual, no real file versioning or anything fancy like that, just a copy once in a while/when something bigger changes.

firefox is more or less backed up with sync, i can also just get profile from my laptop, same with thunderbird. added foobar and hexchat configuration to it now, i guess i want to save it just in case.

Does anybody use zfs here? I have a question.
Is there an easy way to mirror one volume across two different zpools, or add a drive to an existing zpool and set it to use the new HDD just to mirror that volume?
>>
What if I like to live on the edge and don't backup? :^)
