It optimizes out when you compile it, why are you dumbasses always trying to prematurely optimize everything.

You got me.
>>
>>53551669
Because it might not optimize it someday. Optimizing small things like that encourages you to optimize your functions, then function calls, then the rest of your program. Things that a compiler doesn't go out of its way to make fast.

Plus you might be writing a compiler someday. A grasp of optimization techniques is useful.

It's probably not going to be called often enough to make a significant impact on the program runtime. You should be optimizing the structure of your program, not the individual conditionals.

This board makes me rage

>70% generals
>25% shit posting (e.g. they fell for the X meme, X fags on suicide watch, give me one good reason to switch to X)
>5% tech support threads
>>
>>53551818

What would you prefer
>>
>>53551818
i feel the same way, but god damned if i can keep from coming here on a daily basis anyway.
>>
>>53551832
/g/ IT professionals is what i would prefer. a place for casual discussion by people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about instead of spouting memes all day.
>>
>>53551864
>he fell for the technology discussion meme
>>
>>53551832
Honestly I wouldn't mind all the generals if the other % of posts weren't trash. Like do we really need daily "give me one good reason to switch to Linux" threads?

>>53551835
I know the feel, especially since its the default clover board
>>
>>53551864

Go to reddit if thats what you want. There arent enough people here that know what they're doibg to ever support that kind of discussion.
>>
>>53551864
Then let's have a discussion about why we dislike the removal of the exchange management console from exchange 2012.
>>
>>53551887
I know, but every time i go to reddit i get put off by the god awful navigation. 4chan just feels so much more natural in that regard.
>>
>>53551754
this triggers me hard

>>53551770
>>53551781
there's no way a compile would be able to optimize it that well. If that call is made often (which it probably is seeing it's used in graphics applications) it makes sense to bitfiddle to squeeze out as much as you can. The main reasons why would wouldn't want to is:

1. cross platform compatibility
2. readability
3. maintainability
>>
>>53551754
I hope this never happened
>>
>>53551900
nah homes, exchange is deprecated, GAPPS for business is way better IMO, email is the most pain to deal with in any given domain, why not outsource that shit. also, the console is gone because you're supposed to be using RSAT now.
>>
>>53548711
i've been out of programming for nearly two decades, but isn't the whole point to minimize the lines of code you have?

what RSAT? MS has been pushing pretty hard to make windows server more like a console only linux server. makes sense, why waste your server power on rendering a GUI when you can do everything from a client computer insted.

that ain't a java

this is java

boilerplate baz
{

{
public static protected boilerplate Integer main(boilerplate string[] args)
{

}

boilerplate private static Integer max(Integer aTheFirstArgument, Integer bTheSecondArgument)
{
if (MakeAComparison(aTheFirstArgument, bTheSecondArgument).getResult().equals("GreaterThan").equals(true) == true)
{
return aTheFirstArgument;
}
if (MakeAComparison(aTheFirstArgument, bTheSecondArgument).getResult().equals("LessThan").equals(true) == true)
{
return bTheFirstArgument;
}
return 5; // for whatever fucking reason
}
}
}
}

i actually have both in my org, and i prefer google apps to 365. realistically tho it's not really much of a difference. my users are too stupid to use web based office though, so we use local installations of office in combination with google apps
>>
>>53551983
Yeah, dem powershells though. I should get around to learning it but fucked if I care. Someone's MYOB isn't working and I have 3 people who left their computer on overnight during a server restart and put some random bullshit into Outlook when it asked for credentials.

what if a and b are the same number?

and the real joke is that the left code is one of Carmak's greatest pieces of coding
>>
>>53552009
ha, nice. i've always said my job would be so much better if there were no users. especially nowadays when everyone who's ever used google docs thinks they're some kind of expert computer user. those folks are the most dangerous of all. the people who know they're tech illiterate are so much easier to handle.
>>
>>53552028

carmack didn't write it familia
>>
>>53552048
An admin/support desk's job is fucking nothing but talking to dumb people about the dumb shit they did. Seriously, I love nothing more than tickets for new users. One time a woman called to tell me their shared server was broken, I logged onto the server, cryptolocker! I asked if the files on her desktop were white or if she opened any strange E-mails recently from AFP or Auspost, she lied and then connected me remotely to every fucking computer in the office. Last but not least, hers. Outlook still open with letter from Auspost.
>>
>>53552104
oh shit! i've been lucky, i've been here three years and have only had one minor infection that i was able to clean up within the day. the idea of a cryptolocker on my system scares me shitless, but at least the users can only fuck themselves over, since they cant access anything critical.
