iTunes streaming is 256k AAC, which is as good as 320k MP3 for the most part. It's what many non-crazy audiophiles use when syncing ripped music and it's beyond adequate for audio from a mobile device that's going to be used in noisy environments more often than not.

This was bound to happen. Apple stopped making angled jacks for three reasons:
- it's cheaper
- it's "different", and people perceive it has "higher end"
- non-straight connectors don't fit some iphones because of shitty case
Truth is, it's only weaker and bound to break either the jack, or worse, the connector on the phone.
Thanks to Apple, we got a generation of headphones with shitty non-angled connectors. Thanks to them again, we might just have a generation of non-jack headphones.
