All those unpatched exploits really worth keeping a old, slow, memory hog OS like windows 7?

If you read the article it shows that Windows 10 is being pushed out to domain PCs as well. Consider for a moment that this does not mean the enterprise version of windows, companies still have to pay for that. Instead the default botnet is installed which is a major problem.
>>53547650

Unless you paid for the enterprise version you cannot disable the windows features that violate policy.
>>53547115
Stuff like this makes me slowly believe more and more that Windows 10 is part of an elaborate psychological experiment to see how much malware* people will tolerate before they stop using an OS.
* Yes, all of these are examples of malware: from adware to nagware to spyware to trojan downloaders, windows 10 and everything related to it is malware through and through.
The main issue with Windows 10 isn't the spying (even though its still not a good thing), nor is it the interface (even though it still looks like someone designed it while attending a funeral). The problem with Windows 10 is that it straight up doesn't work. System services and drivers tend to be quite unstable, with shit like dwm crashing outright at points, causing any system with multiple monitors to go back down to one until restart. There is also at times some pretty bad memory leaking, where a system process will take up a bunch of ram for no reason and cause a memory intensive application like VMware to die. Then there's the worst part of all, the build updates. One thing Microsoft has never gotten right is the upgrade install. Upgrade installs tend to completely break applications, drivers, and because these things are half-installed, reinstalling them is a bitch. With Windows 10, each new build that gets pushed out runs an upgrade install, and to make matters even worse, Windows 10 will on a lot of occasions just uninstall shit it deems "incompatible" without asking during these installs. And, of course the cherry on top is that they don't allow updates to be disabled unless you kill and disable the service itself, which ends up meaning these upgrade installs happen whether you want them to or not, and everything ends up going to shit.
tl;dr I wouldn't mind upgrading to Windows 10 if it was actually a functional product

We call it Vista 64 bit now.
The installation will be going on 10 years old soon and not a single crash, blue screen, or memory leak despite heavy internet use.
And all I had to do was refuse all upgrades, disable all security and firewall measures, and uninstall all antivirus software. Google still thinks I'm using NT in their logs.
The rarer and more unique your software, the less profitable it is to fuck with it. The more ubiquitous, the more vulnerable a system becomes to even a single fault.
Just like when IEatshit was attacked a few years ago, the solution was to downgrade to the literally the previous version or wait for Microsoft to 'patch' the problem. Why wait for fewer features and less control instead of acting now yourself?

BULLSHIT. I've ran Windows 10 through PCI and HIPAA compliance, and I have the tools required to decrypt telemetry transfers. There really is nothing to see there.

Yeah. This is what agile gets you. It may work for apps, but for something like an OS, the agile cycle doesn't work.
And it doesn't help that business majors with zero technical knowledge are making core decisions about software design.
>>53548216
I'm not posting shit, but look at a tool called Timber. It's primary use is to pull Outlook ETL's, but it will also open telemetry transfers.

As far as I can tell, I never made an argument - I just doubted your credibility.
It's easy to post online about something supposedly being trustworthy. But that means nothing. To gain the trust, you have to show the source material you are basing your opinion on.

Just because your scanner doesn't say it violates it doesn't mean it's safe for corporate use. The scanners haven't been updated to account for the additional information sharing that Windows 10 does.

>>53548291
Connect Win 10 physical machine. Install network only drivers. Connect via Ethernet. Configure port mirroring on said port. Pull Wireshark (or netmon) trace of traffic.
Services don't give up because the first host in their list is not available. They keep retrying until they have a connection.
Windows 10 has issues. >>53547786 was pretty on the money. But this spying meme, while it may have originated from test flight info, is getting out of hand.
FWIW, I don't use Windows 10. It really trips over itself processing group policy.

Because you did a scan. You didn't manually audit it.

>Pull Wireshark (or netmon) trace of traffic.
Last time I checked, it was all encrypted traffic.
>>53548357
>It really trips over itself processing group policy.
That's a serious problem considering group policy is the only effective way to disable any of the tracking.

Use Microsoft's Netmon + Timber (if you can find it. It's an internal tool).

>>53548357
>But this spying meme, while it may have originated from test flight info, is getting out of hand.
The mere fact that there's this much uncertainty about the whole ordeal is proof enough that we shouldn't be using Windows 10.
At the end of the day, there's simply no way to know how much Windows is or isn't spying on you - due to the extreme lack of transparency on Microsoft's part.
And that alone is enough reason to fear something, IMO.

Do you have any sources for non enterprise windows not spying on you?
>>53547786
>The problem with Windows 10 is that it straight up doesn't work.
This basically sums up my short, 2-day experience with Windows 10:
1. Start menu crashes
2. Start menu works, but clicking on ‘All Apps’ crashes
3. Entire settings dialogue crashes
4. Various sub-menus in the settings dialogue crash.
5. Permisions on installed programs suddenly missing (from one day to the next)
6. No longer able to execute installed programs, even if the right permissions are in place.
These were triggered by _basic_ usage of the OS - like going through the settings dialogue, or installing Microsoft Office. I had done no advanced tweaking of any sort. It just plain didn't work.
On day 2, I uninstalled it and installed Ubuntu 15.10 instead. As a whole, the out-of-the-box experience has been significantly better: Not only were all of my important programs already preinstalled, but everything already integrates with everything else in a way no Windows ecosystem ever will.
>>53548448
>there's simply no way to know how much Windows is or isn't spying on you
There never really has been. The problem I think is that Microsoft was very transparent about the test flights, and started to become less so nearing RTM.
As to Microsoft itself, it's a shit company. Bean counters running tech departments. So much so that that some department heads want to track every minute of every day, including bathroom breaks. Then there's the whole H1B visa thing. It used to be an awesome place to work. Then Nokia happened, and it went to the bean counters.

>Until you've actually done a line by line audit of every single line of source in whatever OS you use, shut up.
Classic straw-man defense.
You don't need to do a line-by-line audit of a program to figure out to which extent a _designed feature_ operates.
For example, consider the Firefox Pocket feature. When this came out, I actually _did_ read through the firefox source code in order to figure out which parts of the code base pocket integrates with, what exactly it sends, and how exactly to disable it.
It didn't take long and my questions were answered.
I would love to do the same for Microsoft's telemetry, except for the part where I can't.
This is the simple difference between programs that are open about their antifeatures and programs that are not.
