Tell your admins to update their systems. Newer versions of the SAP software are much more user friendly (pic related).

How old of a release are your admins using? Is it still even within mainstream support?
>>
>>53535817
dunno, I have something called saplogon installed in the windows vm
>>

>filing leave requests via SAPGUI
That has had a WebDynPro (Browser) interface for years. We had to use IE to file leave requests (Chrome usually worked, but the older BASIS releases weren't built to explicitly work in HTML5). Now we have an interface that looks like
>>53535681
for leave requests on PC/mobile, works great.

Usually browser calls in IE download a .sap file if the transaction isn't available via the web. That opens up SAPGUI (SAP Logon Pad), the .sap file essentially acts as a jump-in to the transaction.

As a guy who makes $900 a day working in this shit, I agree.

Fortunately I don't have to do it for much longer.

I cant imagine this running on a Enterprise machine with a fucking celeron and 1 GB ram.

The old SAPgui was running fine though, on low end machines.

NSW government contracts me as a "Procurement Specialist Consultant". Been doing it 5 days a week for a couple of years now.
>>

Every customer laptop I've ever received has come with 4GB or more since 2012, and these aren't IT companies or companies that have a high end machine differentiator.

SAP gives laptops with either 8GB or 16GB of RAM depending on the order. Developers or people who work from a single location can order desktops.

RAM requirements vary greatly; Chrome eats it up, but usually Fiori interfaces don't use a lot of resources in Firefox or Internet Explorer.

>>53535907
$900 AUD sounds like a sweet gig. Why are you moving on? SAP MM is undergoing big changes in S/4HANA, the concepts remain the same but there's potential money/opportunity to leverage your existing expertise in that area.
>>
>>53535945
>why am i moving on

I want to go back to uni and study some more. I've paid for the house my wife and I live in and have been able to buy properties that provide cash flow so I'm lucky enough to not have to work anymore.

You know how people say "even if I had a million dollars, I'd still go to work"? Yeah, I'm not one of those. Fuck work.
>>
>>53535945
Not every company uses good hardware. On the factory I was working only the CAD designers were having good machines. The rest had celerons from 2006. And believe me, opening the IE was something you would regret.
>>
>>53535108
The Norton Antivirus that comes pre-installed with a lot of Windows computers. It's literally a virus, it meets all the definitions as far as I know.

Supposedly McAfee is even worse, but I've never had to deal with it.

Is this... An actual discussion on /g/? Wow.

Anyway, my dad (who's nearing his 55th) still works with SAP, and basically warned me never to go near it while I was in uni.

mfw forced to use SAP CRM

My father worked there for 15 years before he switched, this company is without any exaggaration completly insane. They once forced a guy to fly back to Walldorf during his honeymoon.

Nice edge, bro.

>>53536182
Yeah, I joined SAP straight out of college four years ago and I've basically been told by everyone that it's a black hole I'll never escape. I have met a lot of people who have been doing this for twenty or more years.

>>53536234
It's challenging. BASIS is a hard gig.

>>53536239
Newer versions aren't bad but damn is the back button in the browser resetting everything annoying as hell.
>>
>>53536246
I find that incredibly hard to believe that happened recently. The pool in India, Brazil, Americas, and other parts of EMEA is so huge nowadays. More than a decade below and I can believe it.
>>
>>53536290

I don't really know SAP, but once I had look at the database behind it, it made me cry. (SAP B1)
>>
>>53536268
>I have met a lot of people who have been doing this for twenty or more years.
But that's probably not due to the fact that SAP is SAP and/or a hellhole, this is rather because SAP is a German company.
Over here it is totally normal that you stay with one company for years and years, often from university to retirement. This is changing now, but still, the majority is long term gigs.

So i would imaginge that SAP has adopted this culture internationally.

That said:
I dont know anything about the backend, but yes, that
>filing leave requests via SAPGUI
part, I also know.
It's workable, but holy shit, that UI!
Took me forever to find the fucking button to actually view my payments in another module, since everything that looked like a button was none, and the button is invisibleā€¦
>>
>>53536920
Even in the US the employees often stay 10+ years. And the 20+ years thing I was talking about was more industry. Even when people leave SAP as a company they still tend to work with SAP software.
