My $1 Chinese cable stopped working so I soldered up my own using the usb heads and some 20awg wire from a dead power supply.

Anyone else recycle dead parts like this or make their own accessories?

It's even faster than the stock cable and convenient to take out, even if it's not very pretty it works incredibly well. 32cm length, 20awg though wire.

Also wired it up to charge only, no data because fuck you fast charge is good.

A power supply like a computer one? That sounds pretty cool. Do you just wrap where they meet in sugru or something?

I don't dislike these threads but diy exists for a reason

That cable probably goes beyond what I'd ever attempt, but I've made 4-pin power cables before (similar to pic), and network cables.

I've also fixed my mouse by swapping (using soldering iron) the left and right buttons because the left click was sometimes double, triple, or even quad clicking. That shit got annoying quick. The right-click doesn't seem to mind the flaky button (probably because it's mainly just for showing a popup menu). So now the mouse works like new again.

Yeah, an atx power supply. My family has a pc repair shop so I have a few dead ones lying around for personal projects. Going to make a fast charge adapter for my girlfriend but I'm also going to include a capacitor and inductor just to clean the circuit out a little since cheap chargers can have shitty ripple. See pic.

And my cable soldered up, then wrapped in hot glue and shrink tube. I want it to last a lot longer than the cheap Chinese one.

20awg is way overkill for that length though, 26awg at 1m is enough for most people, 24awg for the more tech literate people.

Shit, sorry.

Made a thread on diy. But feel free to contribute to either thread since this one walks the line between boards.

old low-powered PSU doing nothing else
>>
>>53534210
Well, nothing fancy, but since here,in Romania,it gets awfully hot inside during the summer,I improvise myself a cooling fan (like those little ones that you keep in your hand) out of a 92mm AVC fan hooked up to the 12v rail of any PSU. (a Deer DR-B400ATX)

Put a potentiometer between the PSU and PSU fan because the darn thing was making too much noise, like 60 dB on no load.
Now I can regulate the speed myself

This is wonderful
The furthest I went was to make small circuits out of pure cabling, no surfaces allowed (not that I had any to begin with).
Made a desktop watch I have on a desk corner at work.

Made a bomb prototype (this was after the clock kid event) for fun
I programmed it to set a pin at high after it hits 9999 seconds on the segment display

Actually I wanted to use it to turn on the TV at particular times

Noice.

Mine is just one fan, since the two AVCs I extracted from a defunct HP are at insane RPMs,thus they move out tons of air.

It's an atom d2500.
I got it for $15, used an old 150GB velociraptor, HD5450 and 380 earthwatts psu.

I'm not spending any more money on it.
>>
>>53536104
>not actually making a real fake bomb
could make you money bro

I used to play a lot fo indoor airsoft, one of the local seriifs used to play there also, he built some crazy arduino fake bomb.

Had a keybad, buzzer, blinky lights and everything

was pretty fun, he could reset the code before the match so we actually had to find the code before attempting to disarm.
Was also setup so you could to drop/arm the bomb counter strike style if you wanted too.

Sell them for like $150 for paintball/airsoft players
