Really? I've seen them all used except .C

To answer OP I think all modern compilers support all those, but I like using .cpp

Such is the level of intellect of the average /g/ user.

>>53532644
The C preprocessor ~preprocesses C~, or "preprocesses files containing C code". .cpp is used for C++(c plus plus).

If I wrote an HTML file that uses C preprocessor for templating, the extension would be .cpp
>>
>>53533379
>>53533396

are you guys *actually* retarded? I know what the preprocessor is. There is no mention of preprocessor "files" in that wikipedia article because they don't exist. ".cpp" is for C++ programs, not your imaginary "preprocessor files"
>>
>>53533396
Didn't think it'd be used elsewhere, my bad. I stand corrected. There's no mention extensions in the article, however, so I don't believe >>53533412.

>>53533498

.cpp and .h
>>
>>53533524
Why not .hpp? I thought that was standard. .c and .h for C source and header files, add pp for C++.
>>
>>53533538
That's how my C++101 class did it and I never felt like changing.
>>
>>53533538
Usually I see .cpp + .h for c++ files. Personally I prefer hpp since it makes it match...
>>
.java
>>
.hh & .cc
then for 'c' the std
.c & .h

>If I wrote an HTML file that uses C preprocessor for templating
seriously... The C preprocessor is garbage, there is a reason it's not widely adopted as a general preprocessor
>>
>>53532416
>I'm unable to learn OOP

hpp/cpp

+ is harder to type.

>>53532294
Choosing between files extensions isn't a problem. The real pain is choosing a style. When I see different styles mixed together in the same files, my head hurts.

The subhumans in that image are clearly bothered by the superior engineering masterrace. Too bad engineers don't care for such subhuman behavior, but some of that shit was kinda funny.

>simplicity of Strings
string vs wstring
char vs wchar_t
different byte size for wchar_t in Linux vs wchar_t in windows

C++ will never be simple, unless you stay with specific library (Qt, MSVC, etc)
>>
>>53535851
Shouldn't you have a chunk of code dedicated to setting up/determining what system and hence data types and shit to use anyway?
>>
>>53535851
No that I want to defend Meme++, but wchar_t is a C thing as well.

cpp for pure C++ files
cc for files that include C headers or get included into C code
cxx instead of cpp if the major framework says so

similar applies for headers
