Clang has some nice features, but GCC is fine as well.
Turn on as many warnings as possible and they will beat you until you write good code.

Tabs for indentation, spaces when I need more.
I often align things so they are easier to read and I can edit them with column editor.

That's an IDE, not a compiler. Right?

>>

You can always run it through sed to strip off whitespace if you need to save bandwidth.
>>
>>53533084
It uses GCC by default. It is just an IDE.
It is fine to use an IDE to manage your compiler, but your code should be IDE agnostic.
If you plan to skip around, use cmake.
They will automate a lot if it for you, so try to read it and see what is written and try to edit it yourself when adding libraries.
If you want to design a GUI with your c++ down the road, qtcreator is really good and newbie friendly.

Tab can be used to insert a number of spaces.
Entering text is not the part that slows me down when writing something.
I often draw everything on paper and spends some time to improve.
