It's the best OS if you want to be productive, operable out of the box.

The day I learned that certain windows 95 updates permanently altered network cards to prevent them working with Linux and other operating systems, effectively making them stand alone was the day I started to do more research into the actual goings on of Microsoft. From then on I started to learn Debian, became more educated about what code was running on my hardware and moved away from being MS dependant. It's sad but not surprising this has happened.
If you pay for hardware it should be your hardware, to be used as you direct. This type of behaviour would not be acceptable if you were to purchase a car, so why should it be acceptable when you buy computer hardware?
