>Steam got a chunk of Indie-games with Linux-support
>Android basically IS Linux

Why cant we play them on our android phones/tablets trough the steam app?

Mobile gaming are in deperate need of good game support, google play sucks as a platform were every game that comes out is F2P with huge limitation to free players and P2W-mentality + the games suck ass.

Why cant Valve start out to jew in in mobile gaming? is google stopping them?
>>
>>53527103
mobile gaming is gay
>>
Because most mobile devices are ARM and most games are x86.
>>
>>53527103
Nothing is stopping them besides the fact that they are making enough money as it is doing nothing. All they do is walk into the office, stare at their bank accounts increasing in value, and then go home.
>>
>>53527103

Touch screens aren't a very flexible interface when it comes to games.
>>
I see it as having a similar problem with remote desktop services and art tablets.

You can use an application to create art and unless you deal with the lag somehow, then it will impact the gameplay rate and quality with frame delays.

It would be handy to have a remote desktop app for Visual novels.

>>53527159
if you got one of these, mobile gaming is actually pretty legit, especially for emulators.
>>
>>53527132
I think Valve is a bit busier than that, with their HTC partnership.
>>
>>53527213
HTC is probably doing everything and they're just overseeing. Look at steamOS and the steam machines. Everything is being outsourced to other companies or developers.
Valve isn't actually doing anything anymore besides raking in money.
>>
>>53527194

The problem is having developers port it over and then they have to add controller support for the platform. Do they have an interface on the touch screen for those without said peripheral, or do they make it mandatory and cater to only those with it?
>>
>>53527103
The speculation is that Valve is planning a two step shift. First shift games from x86 Windows to x86 GNU/Linux. Then once games are using Vulkan and SDL and running on top of a Linux platform it will be much easier for them to take x86 GNU/Linux games and get developers to bring them to an ARM GNU/Linux and ultimately to a Steam for Android.

Valve has plenty of reason to think about doing this because ultimately in the x86 space the only company that can provide an x86 SOC for gaming is AMD, but in the ARM space they have far more potential hardware partners.
>>
>>53527242
HTC pretty much only manages the hardware and production, but Valve has been developing the software and some hardware engineering
The Lighthouse tracking came out of Valves hardware engineering for example, and they've been the ones working to integrate the SteamVR platform into various game engines.
They rake in mad stacks, but they don't do it just by sitting on their arse all day
>>
>>53527103
Steam already has shitty mobile games ports anyway. The windows store is trying to inagrate it to be pc/ table store and look how shit it is
>>
>>53527103
Because the performance would be completely shit on an ARM CPU run through a Java VM, which is effectively what all Android apps run in.

>>53527125
Shouldn't be a big issue considering how portable Java is supposed to be.
>>
>>53527364
>Shouldn't be a big issue considering how portable Java is supposed to be.
But the games aren't written in Java. You'd want to be using the JNI on Android for them which means C++, which is probably what they're already written in, but you will have to rebuild it for ARM and if you want to support both ARM and x86 then you need to include JNI code for each.

OSX is built from unix, not linux.

wrong os x includes huge parts of the linux kernel and only some userland applications from UNIX

Mach kernel with BSD userland.

Android only has the Linux kernel and nothing else

OS X is built on bsd, because the license leaves it wide open to exploitation and bsd is a UNIX os.

thats not true, os x is completly based on linux and systemd

THESE ARE THE ANSWERS

Android is a massive layer on top of Linux. You don't have an X server, you don't have direct access to the input, you don't have permissions for many things (such as direct access to bluetooth or wifi), you don't have libraries. You'd have to chroot an entire Linux distro and then somehow fuck X onto SurfaceFlinger or make a wrapper app for display in SurfaceFlinger

You sound reasonable and informed. Leave this place as soon as possible, please. There's been so many replies to this thread and they were all retarded. This board is dead.
