I don't know how you guys feel about them, but I have always loved my Suunto watches. I used to actually need a rugged watch and the features they have (altimeter, barometer, compass, etc) but now I am just used to them. Great watches if they fill the role you need, in my opinion.
>>
>>53524856
You seem pretty jealous and bitter about Rolex and Tudor. The mistake you made about Tudor's movement only exemplifies this. To be fair, hating on Rolex/Tudor is a very rookie mistake to make. New watchfags often make this mistake, as you have yet to understand how influential the brand has been despite normies latching onto the brand as a symbol of status.

The Tudor of the past may seem like a moneygrab at the middle class, but as of late they have been innovative where Rolex is not. Tudor has managed to carve out their own identity and if you think they are simply the poor man's Rolex you are very wrong.

>inb4 Tudor fanboy
>>
>>53525339
>watches
This implies plural, if it's so rugged you'd only need one right?
That said Suunto is pretty universally accepted as one of the best ABC watches.
Aftermarket Zulu / B&R strap / Panerai diving strap might be a good fit if you grow tired or break the original strap.
>>
>>53525428
>where Rolex is not
their new movement seems to be pretty good

also all of their new watches are regulated to +/- 2s/d now
>>
>>53525445
One was crushed by a 155mm artillery round dropping six feed to land directly on it. The replacement that Suunto sent me for free is still working fine. I still have the old one in a box somewhere.

Thanks for the strap recommendations, I never considered replacing it but mine is wearing out pretty badly.
>>
>>53525339
I'd get a G-Shock over a Suunto any time of the day.
>>
>>53525505
Why exactly? I had a G-Shock in Army basic but it couldn't hack it.
>>
>>53525339
I've never liked almost any of Suuntos designs, to be frank. I much prefer Casio ABC watches. Some Suuntos look OK otherwise but the screen never is to my liking. Don't like their numbers, etc. And the decent ones are always the most expensive ones.

A shame really, it'd feel sorta nice to wear Suunto considering I'm Finnish and all.
>>
>>53525487
>also all of their new watches are regulated to +/- 2s/d now

What does it matter when none of their watches look good?
>>
>>53525487
this

Rolex needs to continue making improvements on movements and regulation, and introduce various sizes for their watches for people who want classic looks in the 36-38mm size range
>>
>>53525428
>jealous

Stopped reading there.
You need to stop using bait words and arguing like a minecraft let's player.
>>
>>53525541
I can understand that. I didn't like the aesthetic much at first but it really grew on me.
>>
>>53525487
Innovation comes in many forms - but I hesitate to use this word and will just sum it up to changes instead.

Rolex is traditionally more conservative with changes - whether it be on the dial of the watch or genuine movement innovations. Tudor acts as Rolex's testbed when it comes to introducing these changes to the market.

On the movement front, this is especially obvious when the Pelagos and now the BB's in-house movements feature longer power reserves than the Rolex sub. Of course, Rolex's new movement is technically superior, but it'll take a while for them to revamp their lineup with the new 3255 calibre.

On the aesthetics front, Tudor is also more progressive where Rolex is not. You can whine all u want about larger dial sizes, but the fact when the trend was to increase sizes, Tudor reacted faster and Rolex is only now introducing larger sizes. We also see this at this year's basel where Tudor introduced multiple sizes (36mm on the small end and 43mm at the large end) while Rolex stuck to its current lineup of sizes.

Tudor is also more open to redesigning their dials or taking inspiration or homages from their vintage models while Rolex almost never goes there - Rolex almost never takes cues from their old designs which is why vintage Rolexes are so coveted.
>>

>>

>>
>>53525585
but it's true, you can't accept that some people have enough money to blow on luxury watches while you bitterly criticize them from your high horse, git good kid

Just because Rolex and Tudor appeal to many people, sometimes for the wrong reasons, doesn't mean they're not a good watch company or sell bad watches.
>>
>>53525660
>$925
>>
>>53525639
I've stayed out of this but would like to remind you that Rolex has the following sizes in current production: 28, 34, 36, 39, 40, 42, 44mm
>>
>>53525657
13B
>>
>>53525727
Yes but the point was they were slower to introduce all those sizes -especially the bigger sizes. But even if you claim the size point is bs, it's hard to deny that Tudor often acts as a testbed where Rolex themselves normally wouldn't go.
>>
>>53525787
I agree with that last, to a point.
They haven't tried new materials (everose gold, and whatever their latest steel of the month is) or complications (aside from power reserve(?)) on Tudor though have they?
Only really agree on the aesthetical point, which I think Rolex has fucked over for themselves.

Well at Basel Tudor tried with Bronze and PVD which are poorly executed imo.

To be fair, Rolex/Tudor are not known for complications in the first place and power reserve/accuracy/reliability are the only things they can claim they've improved.

I think Tudor's latest aesthetics/styling moves are really retarded desu. The new BBs have a shield logo instead of the rose logo, but still feature the rose logo on the crown. The new bracelets are also have no end-link which is also frankly kind of retarded despite being intentional and "vintage" inspired. Don't even get me started on the Bronze BB.

The only reason it will sell like hot shit is the green rolex label. I guess they made it a smaller edition so collectors will get it in hopes that it will be worth a lot, because of the green logo.

As deducted from the earlier pic, it sits well but you're probably uncomfy because the strap isn't shaped properly to your wrist.

Yea and I might just be biased. Casio is pretty much the only manufacturer producing digital watches with the kind of digits/"font" that I find acceptable. Timex is horrible, Suunto is pretty bad...etc.

Besides I'm happy with my pro trek, maybe I'll enjoy Suuntos more in some years when I'll replace this.

Do you actually get any use from the pressure readings? How is the compass on that?

I have been looking into those Pathfinders.
>>
>>53528737
The other one is probably the better buy. The borealis seems pretty fuckhueg.

Who is buying a Hong Kong microbrand to actually dive? 2000m is a little excessive
>>
>>53528796
I've owned mine only for a little while, but from what I've been testing out, it all works fine. Pressure readings are very close to what they should be in my area (I don't have another proper tool to test if its spot on, so I just check the weather reports from the area and compare). Compass seems to work fine, this one I've been able to compare to a proper compass. You can use the pressure readings to follow how the weather is changing.

The one thing that's relatively useless is the thermometer. It always reads far too warm when you got the watch on your wrist. And you need to take the watch off for like 20-30 minutes to get a decent reading. So while I can see it being useful, most of the time it just doesn't work. But this is one of those things that ya can't really help, I guess.
>>
>>53528865
I highly doubt it can actually do 2000m.
>>
>>53528796
Pressures can be used to predict the weather in a short term. If you are a sniper or marksman it's also a useful variable to be able to measure but

Early automatic movements were called bumper movements because they had a pendulum which could not freely rotate a full 360 degrees and would be stopped by bumping into springs at the end of the range of motion. Rolex invented the freely spinning rotor design which is still used today. All manufacturers can use the same technology, but only Rolex can call it by the trademark name "Perpetual" because that is their trademark name. Similarly, any manufacturer can make a water resistant watch with a crown that screws down into the case to form a watertight seal, but only Rolex can call that an "Oyster" case.

But I'm sure you already knew that and were just being obnoxious.

Well, as far as servicing and or replicating the dial, that indeed can be problematic. But again, for rather unknown brands logically there shouldn't be a large owner base for them. Meaning not a lot of people would be interested in it, aka not profitable.

But as long as it's a watch without some kinda of special complications a good watchmaker can service it.
