I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

It's not trolling if your patents are valid. You can't just use fat32 without a license.
>>
>>53523854
Linux doesn't need or care about FAT32.

Tell that to normal people who need it when they can't see their phone or mp3 player or external hard drive on Linux
>>
>>53524035
That's because of other OS that we're still stuck with FAT32 though.

That's what Google has done to Linux successfully. Cuckholds still sucking their Java cocks without complaint.

Somewhere, Stallman goes apeshit
>>
it's only a matter of time that the programs and applications they port to linux start feature locking people behind restrictive api access and restrictive subscription models that people who do use linux and want to use microsoft's products will be forced to stick with microsoft and then microsoft will have them by the balls

they don't even need to compete if there isn't any direct compatibility with their products, see: active directory, skype, etc

Embrace, extend, extinguish.
Same old. Same old.
Look for a Steven Elop in your future.
>>
>>53523807
Sadly, you got a point.
Knowing a bit about patent trolling and the history of Microsoft we can doubt about the legitimacy of this "love" Microsoft says it has for Linux.
>>
There is a pasta explaining how license trolling can be done to achieve "embrace extend extinguish".

If you think Microsoft won't try it, you don't understand how big corporations work.

Of course you could be already working for a big company doing "business intelligence", but you happen to be a coward shit and won't say anything about it to confirm it already happens in smaller businesses.
>>
>>53528267
Ballmer calling the GPL license "cancer" isn't helping either

They are pretending to embrace the open source community and Linux so they can fuck over Oracle's marketshare.

That's a pretty big "if"
>>
>>53523854
Even "if", you are totally wrong. Google "biotech patent trolling".

GPL for the biotech industry when!!???
>>
Microsoft already uses Linux internally and for azure. They even have a debian offering. As long as they freely distribute the changes they make to the software I dont see the problem
red hat, google, oracle, novell, etc have already been doing that for years
>>
I don't see a problem in FOSS being used as commercial software isn't that what companies like red hat have been doing since its inception?

Then there's this cockhold swallowing Google's Java cum while Google develops 0 application for desktop Linux.
>>
if MS is so shit why does this scare freetards?
>>
>>53529251
It's a powerful rival to their principles
>>
>>53529239
>while Google develops 0 application for desktop Linux

Google participates in kernel development
Why would I want gapps for linux desktop? chromium is good enough
>>
Microsoft has always been first and foremost a company that makes tools for developers. Only later did they start to make their own operating system too. They really don't care what operating system you run as long as developers keep using their toolchain. Of course they would prefer everyone to continue using their proprietary operating system because it gives them a competitive advantage, but the fact is that the dominance of Windows is slowly fading away and Microsoft knows it, so they're jumping on the Linux bandwagon before they become irrelevant.
>>
>>53529915
I reckon they also believe the hype about how in the future everything's gonna be a web app in the cloud, so Windows or any other desktop OS will be a lot less relevant, since they'll all have a browser. and if you wanna run a cloud service like Azure you're gonna need to play well with Linux, no way around it.
