micro usb being at the bottom because it's not durable at all.

seriously. Had to replace my S4 usb port 3 times. Shit is crazy fragile.
>>
microusb is shit

I plug in my phone in my computer a few times a day; and about a month ago the connection started randomly cancelling, canceling my file transfers.

Even the flimsy-looking proprietary connector of the old sony ericsson phones lasted years... μsb is a joke.

Micro USB is good if you use good quality cables but /g/ is retarded so that's out the window.

Type C is obviously the future, if you've done your research you'd know that's a given.

Lightning is a joke, nobody with a brain is using iPhones so why even talk about it?

I haven't tried Type-C yet, but I really love Lightning. I have both a Galaxy Nexus and an iPhone 6 and the difference is staggering. I like that there's no internal thing to fuck up when you plug it in--it's all plug and socket, rather than some kind of hyaena-tier female pseudopenis thing.

not a Macfag btw, just enjoy all toys and gadgets

PC cases with front panel USB type C when?
>>
>>53521313
You actually can buy cheap ass Chinese cables as long as you know which one to buy. Look up Blitzwolf's reversible USB cables. I paid about $2 each incl. shipping on Banggood. They've gone up in price but still very cheap.
>>
>>53521424
They'll probably start coming very soon, would be surprised if there aren't already some.

ayyy
>>
My phone uses micro usb and it is complete shit. Had to get a new phone cause the last one port had broke cause it's so damn flimsy.

My wife has an iPhone and the lightning connectors seem pretty solid. But apple is death.
>>
>>53521964
can't believe USB2's low data speeds are limiting how fast i can charge my phone
>>
>>53520817
Who gives a fuck? If you aren't retarded either will easy last you a decade aka. longer than the phone should.

Type C is simply the most reasonable standard due speed/size/functionality balance.
>>
>>53521424
I have a pretty bleeding edge meme system* and even then I only have a single USB-C connector in the back panel (the rest are normal 3.1).

I doubt we're going to start seeing these cases until one USB-C connector is commonplace in the back. Generally, cases are half a gen behind mobos because ramping up manufacturing for a case is high risk; it takes quite a bit of time and money, while having mediocre profit margins in a fairly small market.

Hopefully there'll be some niche cases that come out with them sooner to fill the gap, like an NCase M1 v5 (my machine is a M1 v1). These really small custom jobs are much quicker to adopt latest trends.

*Meme machine being an ITX system with a 6700k, R9 Nano, 950 Pro m.2 SSD, 16 GB DDR4 3200. The mobo is Gigabyte's Z170N-Gaming 5.

USB C has a connector in the middle, that connector is seperated and very thin. If it were to bend then you wouldnt be able to put the cable in anymore. Lightning doesn't have this issue.
Therefore:
Lightning > USB C > micro USB

>>
>>53522428
From what I've seen, it's still pretty durable and you'd have to be a retarded ham beast to break it
Also exposed pins like Lightning would be terrible since USB-C can send like 100 watts of power
>>
>>53522428
>>53522507
They both have ups and downs. In terms of durability, USB-C is surprisingly more durable than you'd think, so I'd make them about equal.

I have a big issue with lightning's USB 2.0 limitation though.

I hate Apple products with a passion for various reasons, but if there's something they do right, it's the Lightning connector. The only reason why I envy IPhone users.

So, Lightning > C > Micro

Micro is fucking cancer and should die in a fire. The more manufacturers move on to C, the better. Micro needs to die.
>>
>>53521362
No, but it is a promising maymay
>>
Lightning is most durable, I had my hopes up for Type C, but when I saw it had an island in it I was fucking crushed. Just as shit an micro.

Isn't the middle connector recessed? I don't see how it's possible break it, you'd have to intentionally stick the plug in there wrong in order to break it and even then you'll probably ruin the entire port/phone to get to that point
>>
I'm not really sure what the argument is here. Port quality depends on the quality of the port, no what shape it is.
Lightning and type-c are pretty much the same.
However, Lightning has got the right in my opinion, having the male on the cable. (I know they're both technically male, but you catch my drift)
>>
>>53523980
Type C can't use exposed pins like Lightning because of how much power it's capable of sending over the cable
>>
>micro usb is clearly shit
>nothing I have uses usb c
>can't say nice things about lightning, 'cause apple
>think, brain! think! oh, this must be like how the republicans feel right now...
>>
Lightning > USB C > Micro USB

Only reason the USB C looks like it does is because Apple would have sued if "their" design was followed!

Still the USB C will still outlast most phones i think! Very sturdy!

Lightning is the worst shit, but Macfags will defend it to death.

I used to have problems with micro USB getting loose on my old phones, but the manufacturing must have gotten better because in the past two years I haven't had a single issue with it.

>>53523853
why the fuck I need more? I only charge my phone when I go to sleep and just leave it in the night table
>>
>>53522428
USB-C was designed so that in case you use too much force on the connection, the cable would break rather than the port itself as happens with the lightning connector.

I've never had a lightning cable fail on me nor has any iPhone I've owned have a lightning port issue.

I've had several phones where the micro USB connection would be spotty and require finesse to find a "sweet spot" for the contacts to properly work and also several micro USB devices whose ports have been damaged from normal wear and tear.

But the most fragile port in modern technology has to be Mini USB. These fuckers have an inevitable failure rate and are a pain in the ass to resolder.
>>
>>53525448
The bad part about lightning is the exposed pins. Apple blows at making decent cables, but there are good 3rd party ones, and the port itself seems pretty great.
>>
>>53520817
most durable is lightning, best overall seems to be type c.

>>

what did you do?

lightning seems sturdy as hell from the lmited time ive been using it (6 months)
if only it didn't have fucking DRM built into it and it would be amazing
>>
Despite the fact that it's non-standard, the Lightning connector is a brilliant design and I wish that's what microUSB could have been. There's a solid snap when locked in and it's hard to fuck it up unless you're really trying.
>>
>>53526464
Don't ask me, those are discarded cables I have found.

Most likely the people tried to put their phone down into something it only just fit in with the cable plugged in and it snapped off.
>>
lightning is shit because the pins are exposed

usb-c wrapps the pins in a cylinder of metal
>>
>>53522770

they've never been durable, type-C isn't the reason for that.
