What happened to the philosophy behind XP? A Windows OS that the expert user can conform to their own tastes while at the same time being able to use the vanilla variant that is user-friendly to anyone.

I used to be a Windows 7 user, but then my computer got infected by Microsoft's telemetry malware. Once I discovered hashes of all my family pictures and tax returns had been sent to Microsoft servers, I said enough!

Made the switch to XP and haven't looked back!

WinXP was actually the first Windows with botnet included. Try Windows 2000 or below.

The REALLY important thing is to check "additional drivers" during the install or almost no devices will work.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux,
is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux.
Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component
of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell
utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a
part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system
that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run.
The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself;
it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is
normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system
is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux"
distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Not that beating Linux in usability is a great feat, but XP *IS* more usable. Explain yourself freetards.

kek nice thread OP

it's fucking funny to think that xp will have had more years of support than literally any operating system fucking EVER

even though i switched to Ubangloes years ago, I will always look back at xp with some admiration and remember how i used to charge family to install it, about £70 a pop
>>
>>53521074
It's not in the leaked source code.
>>
Supposedly POSReady2009 supports installation to USB, anyone tried that yet?
>>
They only offer Embedded Standard '09, which is probably better anyway.
>>

>using Linux makes you a freetard
Stop that. And it's not even close to true.

>>53521057
>Russian botnet
I used a legitimate POSReady 2009 ISO moron
>patch XP SP3
POSReady 2009 and XP are not the same thing. The prior is based on the latter, but POSReady is like a trimmed down XP with new components added. Since XP has components this doesn't, you don't get updates for those, leaving your OS still insecure.

I'm not Microsoft, I don't have an exact changelog of the differences, but POSReady 2009 is not just XP.
>>
>>53521200
>>It's an image for Standard.
Nope, it's the POSReady2009 which still gets updates. You just need to use a key from mydigitallife during the installation to get the full version
>>
>>53521090
yeah, because it was a one-off thing included in a service pack believed to be part of an NSA-conducted review of the system
>>
>>53521231
When did I say it was?
>>53521240
That's rather strange, because when I downloaded the POSReady evaluation they gave me a Standard image.
>>
I liked XP as much as anyone, but I don't see why any home user would use XP in 2016 as a daily driver unless so broke they only have access to mid-00s hardware. I guess some users might be tied to some specific software, but that would still mean using XP on a secondary machine only and probably not even connected to les interwebs.

OS do this?

You wouldn't be able to see what I was referring to by "this" because my OS utilizes modern technology like VP9, but I assure you it blows your thing out of the water.

You can turn off all extra internet facing XP components manually making it functionally same as POSReady.
