that's kind of the way discussion of music goes for people who don't have the theory knowledge or at least formal training (as in, for most people). and even for a lot of people who know how to make music, they don't want to engage in discussion about the merits of a piece. a lot of music's appeal is based on how it makes you feel, and it's hard to argue about feelings. nowadays i'm only there for the sharethreads

same here, just get a RSS feed of Pitchfork and you've got /mu/ in a nutshell. On the same topic I just use RSS feed for everything now, go shopping online or look things up but if I want to remember something make a note in a document. Most of my tabs are just 4chan threads I leave open until they 404. I rarely look at archives anymore if they remain open overnight. I just don't give a fuck anymore, there's a shitty wiki for anything you want to know and a thousand search engines.

to be perfectly honest, /g/ is one of the best boards to "waste" your time in.
When i originally started browsing /g/ a couple of years ago, i was pretty clueless about technology in general.
In 6 months, i learned enough from /g/ to assemble my own rig, pick up a programming language, install various linux distributions and setup a fucking NAS using debian.
Seriously, even if all you do is post anime and shitpost, you actually do learn a lot here, whereas after 3 years of browsing /o/, /asp/ and other boards i have learned literally nothing.
