No it isn't. Windows runs it in the background without the user having to do anything.

No amount of money can fix a modern OS with a filesystem straight out of the 90s.

this

why can't windows use EXT4? it never needs defragmentation
>>

It isn't going to run when the computer is off. And no, saying you leave the machine on 24/7 is not going to work.

Because fragmentation hasn't been an issue since XP.

REFS is the next windows filesystem anyways.

its the file system numb nuts, windows still uses NTFS, Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 and 10 all use NTFS and will all suffer the slow read and write speeds because of fragmentation.

Of course everything still uses NTFS, because as much as autists like you spout shit, it works just fine.

I should have clarified that isn't a big deal anymore because people aren't running garbage slow 5400 rpm drives anymore for their OS.

Again, you couldn't be bothered to look at the settings for auto defrag, so who the fuck is the idiot? It's not like you are going to notice a difference. If you are on some garbage slow laptop drive it's going to remain slow.
>>

It's not a big deal because nobody sane uses hard drives for their fucking OS. A problem affecting couple idiots or poor people is just not a big deal unless you're a member of one of the groups.

yes they do, SSD's aren't wide spread enough yet I guarantee you at least 90% of the computer market still uses HDD's for their OS's despite laptop manufacturers pushing SSD's they're still expensive as fuck relative to HDD's
>>
>>53512024
>you won't notice a difference whether your drive is fragmented heavily or not
are you fucking stupid? I maintain a whole rack of servers that needs to be defragged at least once a month just to stay fast because windows server 2008 R2 suffers so much read/write hit because of it
>>
>>53512054
Obviously.

>>53512060
A huge part of the computer market uses shitty 1378 x 768 or 1080p screens too, again either idiots or poor people. Your computer experience will suck if that's the case, whether Winshit fucks your shitty harddrive or not.
>>
>>53512081
Those servers are always on, which means they are auto defragging themselves.

>>53512060
30 second difference means your hard drive is garbage tier, no amount of defragmentation will fix that slowness.

except I still have to manually start the process because they never actually defrag themselves, I don't know why Microsoft's defrag tool is even there, it doesn't do anything and I have no log of Services ever deploying a defrag job.

Hell when I put in the server, people complained about 9 months later "hey our scheduled processes are running really slow!" lo' and behold fragmentation out the ass and after defragging the performance got back to normal again. I don't know why windows doesn't automatically do it but the default never actually does happen
>>

>30 second difference means your hard drive is garbage tier, no amount of defragmentation will fix that slowness.
>your drive is crap

Its a 1tb hybrid solid state hard drive with a 16gb cache for the SS. I guarantee you its gonna drop the boot time by a huge number
>>
>>53512169
Sounds like you are inept at your job. We are running over 400 servers at my work, 2008 and 2012, high availability public facing and credit card machines and not ONCE have any of them had an issue because of fragmentation.

Sounds like you should stick at being a ticket jockey.

sounds like windows doesn't do what windows says its gonna do. The servers are for a bank and the bank runs and processes their own ACH's. But yea, defragging solved the problem right away

>>

these are new within the last few years, theres nothing wrong with using them and they allow for faster read and write access than traditional HDD's. Your entire shitposting brigade is pointless
>>
>>53512269
SSHDs were obsolete since they entered the market. The shit never made any sense beyond presenting ghetto laptops in a better light.
>>
>>53512269
They're shit no matter how you try to shill them. There's absolutely no reason to get one instead of a small SSD and an HDD
>>
>>53512269
I was the original person you were talking to, not the guy above. I laughed because your magical hybrid drive IS the reason, those are garbage and slow. And you don't even know the 30 seconds you said, you just showed that you made it up.

Now go back to your gaming laptop
>>
>>53512301
They're still far cheaper per GB/dollar than SSD's and an adequate upgrade from regular HDD's

The predictive caching is done by the hard drives controller, its the same thing as having a regular cache except its really fucking big comparatively, stop spewing nonsense

>>
>>53512484
A sensible solution would be a 512gb SSD then and learning how to manage your data. Or wasting less money on a shit laptop and getting one with a normal HDD.

>its ideal it doesn't count
Nobody said that. It just means that you can depend on the performance always being at it's ideal, fragmentation or not.

>it caches the OS first
IDEALLY. Given the rest of your posts, I wouldn't be surprised if you managed to fuck it up.

>>53512597

>>
>>53512720
>This shit needs learn which files you load the most often, which can be obviously skewed, depending on use.
you run it once and it learns, if you use something else more often it'll learn and adapt to that, its completely dynamic

Let me clarify. mSATA SSDs go in an mPCIe slot, not a 2.5" bay. Why are you here if you don't know the difference. Because you seem to be assuming that you need a 2.5" bay, which is simply not true.
>>
>>53512785
Because I don't need to know the difference to know that my only SSHD occupies my only 2.5 inch hard drive bay in my dinky ass laptop.
