I was initially jealous but I'm honestly starting to think you're just as much of a poorfag as I who is now missing out on meals and compensating for it by obsessively posting his shit online in an attempt to justify the purchase to himself
>>
Jesus christ, my friend brought me an international SKX007 from japan with the jubilee bracelet, is it really supposed to be this bad?

It rattles like all fuck and feels really cheap, but not only that, the bezel rattles like hell and is kind of misaligned. Luckily I only paid 150$ for it so it's not too bad after I put it on a nato.

The SKX007 that I sold was definitely of a better caliber (also malaysian) no alignment issues and the bezel didn't rattle at all.
>>
>>53508357

Or should I just sell it at a profit (netherlands here so they are more expensive than in the states or japan) and go for a steinhart?

The bracelet is quite terrible as usual.

But that's odd that the bezel rattles. Could be that one of the clickballs was broken.

I just discovered this french brand and they had some pretty cool iconic models in the past and an interesting history deep to Napoleon.
Now after some conflicts they are in business again and I see they reissued some of those models like this one, that was the favorite watch of the president of rance Charles de Gaulle.
Are the current ones still good?
>>
>>53508504
Depends, are we just talking military esq~ watches or full on operator?

>>53508511
Definitely an interesting brand. I know there's even a few Soviet watches that were based in Lip movements. (Like the Zvezda)

Got a (presumbly) French watch in the mail as well, not a Lip though.
>>
>>53508504
G-shocks, terrorist watch, you could argue for marathon's offerings.

But you could honestly wear most watches for /k/ related shit
>>
>>53508511
Just checked their website, miyota movements. Obviously fair enough but also not particularly interesting either tbqh

there's a new bracelet available for sinn 104 (two links, left on the picture)

gonna get this watch eventually, is it worth paying 150€ extra for it when the 104 already looks good on almost literally any strap?
>>
>>53508679
I'mean normally willing to pay extra for a bracelet because I like having the option of a bracelet with fitted end links, which you can usually only get from the maker of the watch

Of course some seiko's and other popular brands have aftermarket bracelets with fitted links so it's not as big a deal with those models.
>>
>>53508713
As >>53508633 said.

Marathon or Casio G-shocks.

Though i'm sure other alternatives might exist, but these two are arguably the most fitting.
>>

Something with 6 band radio control and solar cells for years of innawoods service after the happening.

And no, the transmitters would not necessarily be disabled, it depends on the type of happening.

Like I said, a quartz marathon gets points for tritium.

What's a good beater watch for around £500? I need it to be fairly dressy but it can take a decent beating and will look acceptable when i wear it outside for casuel use too. I was thinking of one of the Seiko Sarbs or the Seiko Sarx017, but i need more suggestions. I'd prefer it to be either mechanical/automatic but I'll accept quartz if i like it.
>>
>>53508880
SDGM001 or 003, SARG011, One of the Seiko brightz chrongraphs.

Get the SARX015 instead, of the 017. The regular SARB033/035 meme watches are also an option.

estate sales are just large sales of the contents of peoples homes after they pass away, just type in "estate sales [your town]" and you'll find listings with images of the insides of their homes. me being in the noreast tri-state area i use "reminisce with kathy" who just emails me with every estate sale around me.
>>53510340
pretty close. they wanted $65 but i think they figured nobody would want a "dead" watch, on ebay they sell off for a few hundred all day
>>
>>53510459
The thing with estate and garage sales is that you can get a vintage piece for cheap because if it doesn'the say Rolex most people just think of it as their dead grandpa's watch

you drive over to the house, basically either the family or a service they pay for puts a pricetag on everything in the house and they just have buyers clear it out. unsurprisingly they do this on such a large scale they usually don't give a fuck enough to actually search what that watch in the attic is really worth.

I totally agree with you, without it the watch looks so boring.

The sapphire crystal upgrade is amazing though. I'm worried about intense physical activity damaging the mechanisms in the watch. How sturdy is Orient? I wear a single watch every single day no matter what I'm doing.

Thinking about adding a quartz chronograph into my collection, is there a difference really a difference between swiss quartz and japanese quartz?

swiss quartz more expensive for swiss made sake?
>>
>>53513044
There are a lot of diverse chrono movements out there so it's hard to generalize. But like most Swiss stuff it's almost certainly more expensive because muh Swiss. Right now I think one of the best quartz chrono movements is definitely the Seiko 6t63 and related, purely on the basis of feel. They use mechanical chrono parts to engage/disengage and reset and run at 5 beats per second, extremely affordable too. I recommend the SSB027 or 025.
>>
>>53512872

Thee only con I can come up with is that the bezel is really stiff.

>>
>>53513292

>>
>>53513328

I got mine used and it was purchased in late 2014.

I liked the date pusher, sort of useless but it helped give the watch a unique look. They even adopted the Ray's design for the "Bagelsport" in Watches: The Anime. Lack of handwinding or hacking was a bit of a negative, interesting to see them add it. Is it just a modification of the old Orient 46943 like Seiko did with the 7S26 / 6R15, or is it a completely new movement?

>>53512684
The movement in existing Rays is sturdy, but it's no Vostok 2414. Which means that I would not be comfortable chopping wood with my Ray.

I didn't want to use the default strap it comes with or risk brown leather not going well with my skin, so classic black it was. I'll probably go on a spree with multicolored NATO's and leathers when I get bored with black. Might get the black-faced variant for the winter.

This was actually real.
Take a good design. Make it bigger (43mm). Make the indices worse. Add a dial novel and shit logo. Make the dial "tropical", aka fake aged shit. And finally, make it in a fucktarded material. There you have it.

Stores occasionally have problems with card paying

some places may only accept cash

heck, it hasn't been that long since my bank kept disabling my card for no reason whatsoever (they disabled it 4 times, every time I went there and asked them to reactivate it, after the fifth time, they just gave me a new card...)

There's a really beautiful linen dial LordMatic on eBay right now. If I didn't have a Lord Marvel on the way (akari.gif), then I might consider biting.

It also uses the 56 caliber rather than the 52 found in the LM special. I can't recall the details as to why, but I do know the 52 is the more desirable.

>>53520126
The 52 is more desirable because they are all hi-beats (28800) in comparison to all of the 5601 and 5606 cal LM's.

And the 56XX cal has an issue with the quickset breaking over time, since it was made from plastic.

I've seen this linen dial 5606 up for auction. You might be interested in it.

Not him, but linen dial Seikos are highly regarded. It's not unusual to see a Lord Marvel with the linen pattern go for $400 or more, and linen dial King Seikos can get upwards of $500-$600. Basically, that dial commands about a $150 premium on Lord Marvels and $200+ on King Seikos. I'd say the current price of the Lord Matic is damn reasonable, although guaranteed it will go up another 40% before the auction is over.

The watch repairer asked me €200 to service and repair the Hamilton and €300 for the Zenith. Fuck.

He said the Zenith is rusted but can still be repaired. At that price though I'm not fucking doing it. I'd consider it for €100. The Hamilton has only a rusted part, I think it was the part connected to the crown, don't remember the name. At that price I might as well buy them in mint conditions. He also said the dial of the Zenith has been reprinted, as suspected.

How much does usually a servicing for a simple handwinding time only cost anyway? I thought it started from €50. Should I try another watch repairer?
I totally forgot to ask him to take pictures of the parts.

Thing is, you are taking an awful risk with Yahoo Auctions. If the buyer reigns supreme on eBay, then the same goes for the seller on YA. Sure, 90% of transactions are fine, but for those that go wrong you are pretty much screwed. Sellers can even remove negative feedback left for them, but you as a buyer have no such right. And "this guy is a filthy gaijin" is actually an acceptable form of negative feedback for a buyer and an acceptable excuse to remove negative feedback left for a seller.

True, you could easily get your ass scammed. But with Ebay's new policies it's still rather easy to get your money back. But Yahoo auctions is a different story.
You need to get some kind of service to bid for you, and also an intermediate shipper if the buyer doesn't do that. Plus as >>53521432 said the sellers can just pull the filthy goyjin card.

I could probably get another one for about 110~140 if i'd ask on a particular WIS forum.

Absolutely true, but as with everything, it is a question of opportunity cost. I get such good deals over there that it is worth it (to me) to take this risk of occasionally getting scammed.

The dark grey LM Special had the serviced 5206 from the first LM Special I bought swapped into it and it runs ~+0s/d.

Time to play the identify the movement game.

Creation watch, and the numbers under the balance say 1187 94.

>>53521943
Well, depends on the watch and the watchmaker.

In you case he's charging for a restoration of the movement.

>>53522029
Damn.

After i left mine to run for a week it does +1sec per day as long as it's wound up. Shame that the day display needs to be manually switched via the quickest sometimes.

Though i'm done with vintage Seiko's for now, got myself a couple of old Swiss,a French and probably a Cosmotron soon.

Yeah, but for a simple Zenith cal 40 how much should it be, between €50 and €100? The cheapest you can find.
I've never serviced a watch before.
>>
>>53521170
>mission impossible Casio
Sure is mission impossible m8, impossible to pull this abomination off
>>
>>53522301
Too many variables.

The only time i've had a watch serviced cost me about 30$. And that was a friends old Komandirskie that was serviced by an old soviet watchmaker that lives not far off Jerusalem.

I honestly think that if it was just a simple service, i.e adjusting, oiling and cleaning it shouldn't be more then 75$~, but in the case of your Zenith it also needs a lot of parts. (if i remember correctly, the regulator and click pawl were rusty as shit).

>>53522254
I spotted the lume and the officially text at first, but i'd be damned if i would see that misalignment.

Though you'd need to quite blind to miss the cyclops.
>>
>>53522254
yeah i didnt take time to look at it after seeing the cyclops.. this faggot was just claiming it was real:

Did you just remove the G-Shock from the bezel.
>>
>>53522477
clearly not - open them both in different tabs and switch between them
>>
>>53522401
Pretty easy actually, you take it off like most other watches.
>>
>>53522404
No, I know, I mean the simple service, of course the replacement parts would cost me more. I was thinking that €200 for the parts new parts alone was too much but what do I know.
>>
>>53522544
>200 euros for the new parts alone was to much
>but what do i know

You answered your own question. Either get the parts yourself, or find a cheaper watchmaker.
