about $600, it would have to be pretty fucking nice, too.

My current laptop cost me $60, it's a c2d and works wonderfully, so I would expect a $600 laptop to be at least 10x as nice.

Why not? They depend on great input methods and quality screens. Besides, most people who do word processing, do it outside of their mothers basement, so it requires a better battery/efficient hardware.

Gaymers are happy with shit if they get their 60-144fps.

probably around $500 but even that's pricey.

for me a laptop is mostly used as a terminal to do work and shitpost from when I don't want to be at my desk for whatever reason. I suppose I'd also like it to at least be powerful enough to handle video playback but that's not asking for too much.

been using mine for more than 3 years now, it holds pretty decent. Good materials, cover and inside from aluminium but the base from plastic to disipate heat better.
I don't game much, it's still ok for an everyday laptop since is very thin and light and only 14inch screen.
Honestly would recommend, this particular machine, I don't know about their other laptops.
>>
>>53506233
there's really not much of a reason to buy new any longer since cpu development came to a screeching halt a few years ago, so i guess 500eur to 600eur for something that used to be worth 2000, 2500 three years ago. if i had an employer or someone else pay or it really didn't matter, i could find enough stuff in the x1 carbon configurator to bring it to about 3000 i guess.

i don't give much of a shit about money, but i'm not keen on throwing it out the window either.

Fellow VAIO Z ("SVZ") owner here but it was more like $3000 before taxes for me.

All that performance crammed into a 0.66" thick case and weighed 2.6lb in 2012. Was and still is amazing considering nothing then was remotely comparable and most laptops now in 2016 still can't compete in terms of performance.

>>53506764
No one really offers that in 2016 either. I'm waiting on the MBPr refresh and hoping maybe they'll offer a quad core option but it's highly unlikely.
>>
>>53507962
>enjoy your battery life.

It still gets 4.5 hours on the main battery after 3 years of battery wear. 8.5 hours with the sheet battery.

It's not as if you render while on battery for hours on end. You'd be retarded to not have brought your power brick if you knew you were doing so before hand.

>>53507962

>>53507967
fuck yeah man
mine was actually a vpc (second), but i think the svz also had some other improvements too like faster ssd's plus reduced production cost since it was basically the third iteration of the vaio z2

and yeah you still can't find a proper compact model that has enough performance that doesn't fucking throttle and is low voltage dogshit, hence im still sticking to my z
>>
It depends OP. If it were right now? Nothing. I have no need for a laptop when my desktop works just fine.

If I didn't have a desktop? I'd get something majorly budget based at the moment, because I'm broke.

If money was no object? Whatever the most powerful one was, regardless of the price. Lavish things like "diamond encrusting" doesn't do anything for me, so I'd just get the most top of the line whatever is out there.

That's a stupid question, it depends on what you need it for and how much you plan on using it (ie will doing things that require more power be able to wait until you have access to a desktop or will there be times when you don't have a desktop for extended periods and will need to be able to do those tasks on the laptop). If you just want something for occasional portable web browsing you could get away with spending very little. If you need something that can completely replace your desktop while you're on the go for long periods of time then expect to pay significantly more. Don't just say I'm willing to spend X and find the best specs in that category, find out what specs you will need and go from there. I just use my laptop for shitposting on the go, so I got a used netbook that cost me just over $100 including the new SSD that I put in it, but if I still played games a lot and had a job where I would be regularly be gone for a few days at a time like some I used to know I'd spend significantly more for a laptop that could run the games I wanted to play.

The people who work there are all elderly women, They have no idea what they are dealing with and usually price it really low. They dont even wipe the hard drives!

I am not shitting, I prefer laptops 100x more than desktops, I can't stand sitting in the same position and place for hours, my body and brain just can't, I can code while looking at the mountain, in my bed, in the living room, it's like changing the desktop background but now I am changing the real background whenever I want, it gives a real mind refresh.
>>
$500? Idk, I'd probably only use a laptop for when I'm on the go, I'd rather put all my money in my desktop considering you can remote access your desktop from your smartphone. There really doesn't seem to be a point to expensive laptops unless you're a gamer, and even then a desktop is better, you're paying more for portability.

I know this board gets a reputation for being shut-in but, you don't need to explain changing scenery that much mate.

$1100 on my Asus gaming "memebook"

$1400 CAD on that aluminum macbook back when it came out. Served my needs for many years until I realized what a joke apple and their toy OS was.
Now I wouldn't spend more than $800 and the last laptop I bought was $120. My needs have changed I guess.

I will pay for something I can use for a few years for code and compile "fast". I think 700€ would be my max. I won't play in it.
