Why would you bother doing this if you're just going to scale down the rendered image anyway? It's a waste of time, and it is then subject to antialiasing and interpolation. It's better to render at a resolution and density that makes the most sense for the output screen.

This, this unlimited detail engine is fake as fuck and I remember seeing it first in 2007
because every time they show it off they don't show examples with complex lighting or models or anything that may make a game like a game and focus heavily instead on selling it for practical purposes such as historic documentation for museums, 3d floorplans for realestate agents etc
it's not a game engine and never will be if all they can muster up every year is yet another "zero impact high detail engine, also works good for historic preservation guys!", which is fine and all if you work for a museum and don't give a shit about gaming and instead are licensing this engine to run virtual reality tours, but then you wouldn't be on /g/ in the first place

Because in its current incarnation, the technology is more geared for use in things like civil engineering. If you need a 3D map of something, this tech is amazing.
They started work on a game engine some time in 2015, so we might expect them to announce something toward the end of this year, or perhaps next year, assuming they can get the tech to produce animations. I don't know how they'd get it to animate, though, because it currently just loads a map from memory, it doesn't actually render anything.
