convenience. I put my phone on the same bedside table every night. If it could charge automatically that'd be cool. Doesn't matter if it's slow, I sleep for 5-7 hours
It's a neat idea that won't be practical until it's made into the entire top of a nightstand or coffee table where people actually put their phones down.

Considering it's an off the shelf part and most manufacturers are probably using the same exact USB receptacle, it has nothing to do with samsung.
Do you think samsung actually makes those things in-house? They are a nickle each or less and they buy 1M+ at a time in bulk shipments, just like motorola, LG, etc.
I'm quite fond of Qi charging, except for the fact it isn't silent with some receivers.
Its pretty nice if you dont need a rapid top-off.
