So here's a thing; I bought my drivers based on linux support after approaching smaller companies about their product (5-10 mins writing all emails), personally; as well as after researching generic driver source/binary providers (arch linux) and their reported device/hardware support.
I did all of this while passing a solid shit after crushing a hell of a lot of beers and bbq at the local joint the night before and I was quite hung over while doing my research; I don't understand why so many people have trouble with linux aside from when they may be learning it or perhaps may not be accustomed to reaching out to domain-specific knowledgeable folks. The linux kernel is bloated as FUCK trying to support these dolts.
To the guy who was complaining about "after kernel 3.8" like kernel is a proper noun, I suggest you grow a pair of balls and stop acting like a parasitic pleb who cant port code over to his own system. Dude probably runs Ubuntu or Mint and complains when he cant run his .exe progs he's got on his /ZeroCool custom mount point for his see-through acrylic usb stick.

why can't we be more mature about OS discussions most of us have used all the major ones and know their pros and cons. Linux does have shitty driver support it always has. It used to not be able to support all mice. Windows used to have lots of shit drivers. OSx is built for certain hardware.
What is it that makes wifi adapters the only shit hardware support left in linux? I can plug basically any other type of peripheral in my machine and it will work with no fuss except for maybe the extremely rare driver install from internet that works flawlessly the first time. Wifi shit on the other hand barely ever works.
