bspwm in itself is not hard or long at all to configure but sxhkd (which manages keyboard shortcuts) can be a bit of a pain. Fortunately you can find plenty of examples configs that will do 99% of what you need.

I'm still not 100% satisfied with mine and still tweak it from time to time but it is more than usable.

>What about sharing a webm of your screen?

>>
>>53496134
OP here. Not really any reason to change, both Awesome and i3 are good WMs and if you are as comfy with Awesome as I am with i3 that's completely fine.
>>
>>53495392
>>53496134
>>53502533
i3wm shines where awesome lacks flexibility: in the multimonitor settings. I've used awesome wm, and it places n "desktops" for every monitor, and it's almost impossible to move those "desktops" among monitors.
Also, the tiling is authomatic: you decide the placement of the windows and they place themselves that way. Wanna change? no way: you stay that way and it's cumbersome to organize them differently.

On the other hand, i3 has N "desktops" and M monitors, and you can decide on which monitor a "desktop" may be placed. It also has a "buffer desktop", similar to the copy+paste one, for those windows that you wanna see only rarely (to monitor its progress, or similia)
Also, the tiling is manual: you place your shit wherever you want, and if you want it otherwise - there are shortcuts that help you to do so.
IMHO, this is the most flexible WM ever. Up to this moment I tried: awesome, xmonad, herbstluftwm and i3. I may find something more pleasant, though; But, apart from bspwm - I highly doubt that.
>>
>>53494834
why not mod+F onto the window you're using (in this case Firefox)? literally not maximizing your screen real estate.
>>
>>53502680
Because I like to see my temps and have access to the terminal whenever I please. Only time I need to maximize it is when I am watching a movie or video.
>>
>>53502711
write a bash script and put it in your i3bar, then; I did something similar, but only with the CPU1 temps. Gotta monitor them when I play muh gaems on playonlinux
also
>muh gentoo compiling times
that's pretty computationally heavy too; adds about 19 C to the normal temperature

OP here again, I have changed my desktop around a bit, and I have settled on a config I really like. Perfect amount of browsing space, with all my applications available and easy to switch to.

Tried it, but went back to bspwm because it was more familiar to me.
What does i3 have on bspwm? I'd consider trying it again.
>>
>>53518106
I've never used bspwm so I don't know which one is better but i3 is incredibly easy to use

Got used to Xmonad. Have no reason to switch, even though i3 seem more powerful. Might be more than I need, at this point in time.
>>
>come back from work
>run pacman -Syu

Fuck this shit. I'm going to Fedora or Ubuntu with KDE or MATE or any sane DE.

because i have more than 512 MB of ram

Awesome is more customizable but more work to customize.

Alt-tab to change window focus instead. Works well if you only use 2-3 windows at once.
But really, what does the WM matter when you're just going to run a single Xterm for emacs or screen/tmux. Then maybe run a dank web browser, if you really have to.
>>
>>53491136
Why would I use i3 when I can already make xmonad do everything I want it to?

>2016
>not programming your own WM
>>
>>53517955
It takes some pretty severe autism to have half your screen real estate taken up by unused Windows at all time.
>because I n-need to see my temps at all time
^Autism
Also just stupid because the keyboard configs of i3 are there so you can quickly switch between tabs for really basic shit like checking temps. Just organize your windows appropriately.
